The 2024 Didi Haidian Marathon kicked off on October 27 in Zhongguancun No. 1, Haidian District, Beijing. This year's event featured only the full marathon, attracting thousands of participants from both domestic and international backgrounds.
After intense competition, Ethiopian runner Ahunim Addisu Workenehclaimed the men's championship with a time of 2 hours, 19 minutes, and 45 seconds. Chinese runners Li Yongjie and Wang Jie secured the second and third places, respectively. In the women's category, Chinese athlete Huang Fei won the championship with a time of 2 hours, 36 minutes, and 25 seconds, while fellow Chinese competitors Feng Dan and Wu Ling took the second and third places.
The 2024 DidiHaidian Marathon is an A1-class event certified by the Chinese Athletics Association. It is organized by the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau and the Haidian District People's Government, with the Haidian District Sports Bureau serving as the event's host. The marathon attracted 21,239 runners from 24 countries and regions, including China, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, and Canada. Ultimately, 10,000 runners qualified to participate. Among the qualified runners, the oldest was an 81-year-old retired professor from Beihang University, while the youngest was a 20-year-old university student from Beijing, highlighting the region's rich educational, technological, and talent resources.
The marathon route featured many iconic landmarks in Haidian District, showcasing its ecological, cultural, and technological characteristics. Participants enjoyed beautiful natural scenery along the way, including the Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park, Daoxianghu Park, and Shangzhuang Reservoir. They also had the opportunity to appreciate the deep historical and cultural heritage of sites like the northern area of the Palace Museum and the Beijing West Rice Culture Museum. The route also highlighted the vigorous development of high-tech parks such as Yongfeng Industrial Park, Ufida Industrial Park, and the Zhongguancun Environmental Technology Demonstration Park. Runners could take in the fresh air of nature and experience the joy of sports throughout the event.
