The 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports and Culture Festival and the 5th "8.8" Beijing Sports Consumption Festival (referred to as the "Two Festivals") took place over the past two months in Beijing and Zhangjiakou, Hebei. These festivals, combining "Olympics + Sports + Culture + Tourism + Commerce," hosted dozens of engaging activities aimed at promoting fitness, Olympic culture, and urban consumption, directly benefiting over a million people.
In 2024, the Beijing Olympic City Development Association and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports partnered for the first time to merge the Beijing Sports Consumption Festival, organized by the Municipal Bureau of Sports, with the Beijing Olympic City Sports and Culture Festival.
The main events were held in the central area of the Olympic Park, kicking off on August 8 and concluding in mid-October. Centered on boosting consumption, these events generated a total revenue of 46 million yuan over the two months. In addition, more than 140 sports and cultural events were held across 16 districts in Beijing, including "Night Beijing" and the "Cultural Tourism Lifestyle Season."
The "Two Festivals" leveraged the Olympics' global reach by fostering collaborations with international organizations. Representatives from the International Olympic Committee, the International Olympic Museum Alliance, and the Milan International FICTS Festival were invited to Beijing. During the 2024 Beijing International Sports Film Week, 18 Chinese films were selected to compete in the 42nd Milan International FICTS Festival's global finals in Italy this November.
This year's festival collaborated with the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, to launch the "Together with the Olympics: Past Summer Olympic Games" exhibition at the Summer Palace. This exhibit also toured other locations such as the Olympic Center and Shougang Park, attracting over 1.2 million visitors.
To facilitate public participation, the "Two Festivals" introduced a series of vibrant community sports activities. The organizers also partnered with Beijing's Yanqing District and Zhangjiakou City to launch the "Joyful Journey Along the Winter Olympic Route" series, including self-guided track options to meet community interests in cycling, running, hiking, and cross-country activities.
