Beijing showcases 70 key cultural and tourism projects

2024-10-28

Recently, the "Fifth Beijing Cultural and Tourism Key Projects Investment and Financing Matchmaking Conference" was held, serving as an essential side event of the city's Tourism Development Conference.

Projects cover 10 popular fields

At the matchmaking conference, 50 investment and financing projects with high levels of innovation, demonstration, and leadership, along with 20 implemented projects, were showcased.

These projects span ten popular fields: cultural and tourism technology application, green eco-tourism, creative spaces integrating culture, business, tourism, and sports, rebranding of tourist attractions, cultural tourism towns and leisure resorts, boutique hotels and rural inns, cultural and creative tourism, science education bases, tourism support services, and "dual-use" tourism facilities for regular and emergency situations.

Among the showcased projects, several new developments—such as Universal Beijing Resort, Liangma River International Waterfront, and The Box UIC Urban Vitality Innovation Center—reflect Beijing's recent international and urban-focused trends, becoming flagship initiatives in establishing Beijing as a national cultural center and international consumption hub.

Additionally, 50 key projects in need of financing partnerships include South Beijing Tourism Resort, HTC's immersive digital VR cultural experience, and the enhancement of the Juyongguan Great Wall Scenic Area, with an estimated total investment of approximately 67.3 billion yuan.

Emphasizing innovation and the fusion of old and new

With a focus on innovation, creativity, and the harmonious integration of the old and new, the highlighted projects stand out with industry-leading and exemplary features.

Among the 70 key projects introduced at this matchmaking event, cultural and tourism technology applications, cultural creative tourism, and creative spaces account for a significant portion, with 34 projects, nearly 50% of the total. Projects such as the immersive digital VR exhibits Horizon of Khufu, along with the 2024 Beijing Tianqiao Musicals, integrate immersive cultural tourism experiences, new spaces for cultural consumption, and regional brand-building elements. These initiatives embody Beijing's commitment to continuous growth and innovation in cultural tourism.

Ma Fang, Special Assistant to the Chairman and General Manager of Public Affairs for HTC VIVE China, announced that on November 8, the Notre-Dame de Paris Immersive Experience will debut at the 798 Art Dist.

Emphasizing the "fusion of old and new" is also a key feature of the showcased projects. For instance, the Daguanlou Cinema in the historic Qianmen Dashilan area, originally built in the late Qing Dynasty, is slated for renovation and operational upgrades, incorporating film-related cultural creativity and tourism technology experiences to create a model for traditional cinema transformation. Other notable projects include the preservation and revitalization of the Bell and Drum Tower area along Beijing's Central Axis, the renovation of the 2,000-year-old industrial creative district in Nanyuan, and Phase II of popular areas like Beijing Fun and Longfu Temple.

Five Projects Sign Investment Intent Agreements

At the event, the Beijing branches of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and the Agricultural Bank of China (ABC) each presented innovative financial products aimed at supporting the cultural and tourism industry. ICBC highlighted its comprehensive financing services for cultural tourism, while ABC focused on integrated "agriculture-culture-tourism" solutions.

Five projects, including the Pinggu Jinhai Lake "Dual-Use" Health and Wellness Resort and the Boundless Realm Digital Art Center—Notre-Dame de Paris Immersive VR Experience at 798, signed investment intent agreements totaling approximately 1.47 billion yuan.

At the event, the Beijing Cultural and Tourism Resource Trading Platform, along with the Beijing Cultural and Tourism Association, the Beijing Animation and Game Industry Alliance, the Beijing Performing Arts and Entertainment Association, and the Beijing Network Culture Association, held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony. The five parties aim to leverage their respective resource advantages to promote the co-construction and sharing of resources within the cultural and tourism industry.
