Spring in Beijing: Admire Blooming Flowers and Explore Architectural Wonders|Peach blossom

In March, as spring arrives with bright sunshine, the fragrant peach blossoms bloom splendidly on the branches. They are charming and vibrant, as splendid as clouds at dawn, beautifully contrasting with the lush green willows, creating the picturesque spring scene of "peach pink and willow green". People often refer to "peach blossom luck" to describe young couples encountering love.

Indeed, enjoying the peach blossoms together is a wonderfully romantic and delightful activity for many on a breezy spring day!

Let's step into this beautiful springtime and explore the best places in Beijing to admire the peach blossoms.

Recommended viewing period: late March to early May

Recommended viewing locations: National Botanical Garden, Pinggu Peach Blossom Sea, Beihai Park

National Botanical Garden

This is arguably the best place in Beijing to view peach blossoms! The National Botanical Garden boasts the largest variety of peach blossoms in the world. Every late March, during the peak bloom, over ten thousand peach trees of nearly 70 varieties, including red, white, and green peaches, blossom together with yellow forsythia, pink willow-leaved plums, cherry blossoms, and purple and white lilacs, forming a vibrant picture.

Within the garden, the best spot to appreciate the peach blossoms is at the peach blossom stream west of the Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall. A stream flows gently down the stone steps, its soothing sound harmonizing with the surrounding mountain peach blossoms. As a gentle breeze blows, flower petals float down onto the clear water, creating a scene reminiscent of a peach blossom paradise—a dreamlike and breathtaking experience!

Pinggu Peach Blossom Sea

Pinggu is renowned in China as a major producer of large peaches, boasting 220,000 acres of peach orchards, which are considered the largest in the world and also Beijing's largest fruit-growing area. In 2020, the Pinggu Peach Blossom Sea was voted by netizens as one of Beijing's first popular scenic spots. Each year, during the peak bloom in April and May, the mountains are covered with vibrant peach blossoms, resembling a sea of color and a tapestry of beauty. Visitors can stroll through the expansive peach blossom fields, trying to match the blossoms in their beauty. You can also climb to the Peach Blossom Viewing Pavilion on Xiaojin Mountain for a panoramic view of the magnificent peach blossom sea or drive through the hundred-mile peach blossom viewing corridor, enjoying the pleasure of traversing through the blossoms.

The Xiaoyuzi Peach Blossom Viewing Area, Xiaojin Mountain Viewing Area, Peach Blossom Spring Viewing Area, Xinggong Viewing Area, Daling Viewing Area, Emei Mountain Viewing Area, and Zhushui Viewing Area are all excellent spots for appreciating the peach blossoms in Pinggu.

Beihai Park

After experiencing the National Botanical Garden, which has the most varieties of peach blossoms in the world, and the expansive Pinggu Peach Blossom Sea, let's imagine when the beautiful peach blossoms meet the majestic White Pagoda in Beihai Park.

Entering Beihai Park through the south gate, you step onto Yong'an Bridge, built in the early Yuan Dynasty. After passing two painted arches, you reach the heart of the park—Qionghua Island (Qiong Island). The island is lush with greenery and connected by halls and pavilions. At the top of Qion Island, the site of the former Guanghan Palace features a Tibetan white pagoda with a history of over 300 years. Each spring, it becomes the best time to appreciate one of the Eight Sceneries of Yanjing—"Qiong Island Spring Shade".

Although there aren't many peach blossoms on Qiong Island, the ancient charm of the mountain temples and the reflections of the red walls create picturesque views at every step, where each peach tree is like a poem. When the peach blossoms bloom vibrantly in the spring breeze, it is truly a breathtaking beauty! Especially against the backdrop of the uniquely shaped white pagoda, these blossoms not only showcase the vitality of spring but also embody the rich history of Beijing.
