Shijia Hutong Museum

The Shijia Hutong Museum is the first hutong museum in Beijing, featuring 130 miniature courtyard models and over 70 different hutong sounds, including "Zhenjinggui" and "Huchengzi". It offers a perfect place for visitors to learn about the lives of ordinary Beijing residents and everyday life in the hutongs. Through its exhibits, the museum portrays hutong stories, building types, family lineages, and recreates life scenes from the 1970s to the 1990s, making it ideal for out-of-town visitors to gain a better understanding of hutong culture.

The museum is located at the former residence of ROC-era female writer Lingshuhua. Back then, she often hosted cultural gatherings in her courtyard, with famous figures such as Qi Baishi, Xu Zhimo, and Hu Shi being regular guests. Stepping into this space feels like stepping back into the memories of a traditional Beijing siheyuan.

The museum covers an area of 1,000 square meters and houses seven permanent exhibition halls, one temporary exhibition hall, and a multifunctional hall. The permanent exhibits condense the history and culture of old Beijing and hutong life. Notably, the sixth and seventh halls feature physical objects and sounds that capture life memories in the hutongs, making them uniquely distinctive.
