
Xiaoxue, or Minor Snow, is the twentieth of the 24 solar terms and the second solar term of winter. It occurs on November 22 or 23 each year, when the sun reaches the celestial longitude of 240 degrees.

Xiaoxue is a solar term that reflects precipitation and temperature. During this time, cold waves and strong cold air activities are more frequent. The arrival of Xiaoxue signifies that the weather will become increasingly cold, with rising precipitation.
Cultural significance

Pickled vegetables and cured meats. In ancient times, ancestors developed the method of preserving food to ensure sufficient vegetables and meat for the long winter. Various vegetables (primarily cabbage and radishes) and meats were pickled or air-dried to extend their storage time for winter use. Today, this pickling tradition remains, becoming a specialty in some regions. During Xiaoxue, it's common to start making sausages and cured meats, allowing for delicious meals during the Spring Festival.

However, since the climate is cold but not yet at the harshness of winter, many people tend to neglect wearing hats and scarves, making them susceptible to wind chill.
