144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

2024-09-12

Visa-free transit policy for foreigners refers to the policy that foreign passengers can transit from one country to a third country (region) without applying for a transit country visa in accordance with the laws or relevant regulations of the transit country, and can stay in the transit country for a short time. At present, China's 41 ports located in 19 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) are open to the outside world, and the 72-hour or 144-hour transit visa-free policy is implemented for personnel from 54 countries.

The Beijing port implements a 144-hour transit visa-free policy, and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional linkage. Therefore, foreigners who meet the conditions of transit visa-free entry from any port in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region applicable to this policy can apply for the 144-hour transit visa-free policy within the three provinces (municipalities) of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, and can exit from any port in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region applicable to this policy.

Application conditions

Foreigners who apply for 144-hour transit visa exemption through Beijing Port need to meet the following three conditions: First, they need to be citizens of countries within the scope of 144-hour transit visa exemption; Second, you need to hold a valid international travel document that can prove your nationality, with a validity period of not less than 3 months, and meet the entry conditions for a third country (region); Third, according to the duration of the application for transit visa-free travel, it is necessary to hold a connecting ticket to a third country (region) with a confirmed date and seat within 144 hours or relevant certificates, fill in the temporary entry foreigner entry card, and accept the inquiry of exit and entry border inspection authorities.

It should be noted that the applicant needs to go to a third country or region, and cannot be from the same country or region at the time of entry. For example, if a foreign passenger from South Korea transiting through Beijing wants to apply for a 144-hour transit visa exemption in Beijing, the country to which he purchases subsequent flights can no longer be South Korea, but must be a country or region other than South Korea.

The "144 hours" shall be counted from zero hours on the next day of entry

When should 144 hours be counted? How long is the maximum stay? The reporter learned from the Beijing Border Inspection Station that the stay period of 144-hour transit visa-free foreigners is not calculated from the current time of entry, but from zero o 'clock on the next day of entry and ends at 24 o 'clock on the sixth day.

For example, a foreign passenger who enjoys the 144-hour transit visa-free policy entering the Beijing Port on January 1 will have a stay period starting from 00:00 on January 2, and can stay in the visa-free stay area for a maximum of 6 days, that is, leave the country before 24:00 on January 7.

In case of force majeure and other reasons, foreigners need to stay in the visa-free stay area for an extended period of time, they shall apply to the Exit and Entry Administration department of the public security organ for the corresponding stay documents.
