The media conference for the original stage play Mengzang School was recently held in Beijing. The play tells the red revolutionary history of a group of Mongolian youth who, under the guidance of revolutionary pioneers like Li Dazhao, transitioned from confusion to awakening and joined the revolution between 1923 and 1925.
The project began preparations as early as 2020. To ensure the stage play balances both historical accuracy and artistic expression, the production team conducted extensive, in-depth research from scriptwriting to stage design and rehearsal performances.
At the media conference, the play's producer, Ji Li, stated that the team underwent extensive research, verification, and refinement, repeatedly honing the script and carefully assembling the creative team. They invited Tang Ye, a National Class-A Director from the Beijing People's Art Theatre, to direct, along with National Class-A actor Zhang Wankun from the Beijing People's Art Theatre, and National Centre for the Performing Arts actors Wang Haowei and Liu Tong as leading actors. The stage design was meticulously crafted to ensure the play would vividly present this epic historical narrative on stage.
Director Tang Ye admitted that creating a play that resonates with the audience is no easy task. It must both respect historical facts and transcend everyday life. "Throughout the creative process, we invested our most genuine emotions in the creation and expression. Only by being moved ourselves can we move the audience."
It is reported that the play will officially debut at the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center on September 13 and 14.
