Visit Beijing on bus: ten recommended tour buses

Tourist attractions are always bursting in the summer vacation, the major peak season of tourism. Therefore, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transportation and Beijing Public Transportation Corporation offer an alternative of visiting Beijing – tour buses. A total of 10 routes are recommended, such as Bus No. 101 that travel along Chang’an Jie(Ave), Bus No.877 with a destination to Badaling Great Wall, and Bus No.20 connecting the universities and historical sites, encompassing a range of attractions.

01 Chaoyang sightseeing bus line

As the favorite of children, double-decker buses are featured with its outstanding appearances, wide vision and comfortable seats.

The line is 30 kilometers long, with a total of 30 stops in both directions, connecting three “green lungs of city” - Chaoyang Park, Olympic Forest Park, Wenyuhe Park, three night sightseeing landamarks – Liangma River, Olympic Tower, and Wenyu Lantern Fest, four business areas - SOLANA, Blue Harbor, Sun Palace, Taiyanggong, Ya’ao, and Beiyuan, as well as a number of popular sites.

02 Bus No.44 in Beijing Core Area

Tiananmen and Qianmen are not only popular among the local citizens of Beijing, but also must-visit destinations for tourists.

On Bus No.44, passengers can travel around the core area of Beijing, passing through Yonghegong Lama Temple, Ancient Observatory, Qianmen Dajie (Ave), Jinrong Jie (St), Mei Lanfang Theater and other historical buildings and cultural landscapes.

03 Bus No.107

Bus No.107 is popular among young people.

The line boasts its distinctive station announcement by a ballad named Drum Tower, created by the singer Zhao Lei. Travelling through the Forbidden City, hutongs, Drum Tower, Beihai Park, passengers can gain an authentic perception of the Old Beijing.

04 Bus No.5

Bus No.5 is the earliest bus line opened after the founding of PRC.

It can take passengers to travel across a range of landmarks such as the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest), Water Cube, Tiananmen, Deshengmen, witnessing the development of Beijing.

05 Bus No. 23

Bus No. 23 that travel along Guangqiu Lu (Rd) is painted with the Beijing Opera images of Mu Guiying and Zhao Yun and old photos of the sites along the route. With colorful and exquisite paintings, the buses serve as a mobile exhibition hall of traditional culture, in which passengers can appreciate the culture of Beijing and Beijing Opera.

06 Tram Xijiao Line

Along the way, there are Bagou Stop, West Gate of Summer Palace Stop, Chapeng Stop, Wan’an Stop, National Botanical Garden Stop, Xiangshan Stop, etc. Passengers enjoy the picturesque scenery of the “three mountains and five parks,” such as the ancient gardens, verdant mountains and forests, and tranquil lakes.

07 Tour Bus Line 1 & 2 and Bus No.317

To take the Tour Bus Lines is the best way to Beijing Municipal Administrative Center.

Tour Bus Line 1 & 2 is designed to facilitate the visit to three major cultural buildings of Tongzhou District, i.e. Beijing Performing Art Center, Beijing Library, and the Beijing Grand Canal Museum. It is connected to subways of Batong Line, Line 6&7. There are shuttle buses at the parking lots for passengers to get to the three sites. Besides, visitors can take Bus No.317 to these sites. During the summer vacation, three more buses are open from to Yunhe Mingzhu Jiyuan Stop to Shang Matou Nan Stop to improve transport capacity.

08 Tour Bus Line 20

The tour packages of “universities plus historical sites” are quite popular in summer vacation.

During the summer vacation, visitors can take Tour Bus Line 20 at Beigongmen Stop to travel across Tsinghua University, Peking University, Summer Palace and Yuanmingyuan. It enables the children not only to perceive the culture and spirits of these universities but learn more about history, thus stimulating their patriotism.

09 Bus No.877

In order to facilitate the visit to the Badaling Great Wall, Bus No. 877 as the through bus is open to tourists every morning, with the departure stop at Deshengmen. 

On peak days, additional buses will be deployed to increase capacity. At noon, tourists can take Bus No.879 at Badaling Great Wall Stop (opposite to the stop of Bus No.877) to arrive at the Dagongmen Stop and Dingling Stop to visit the Ming Tombs, and the tombs of Emperor Yongle and Emperor Wanli.

Beijing Public Transportation Group will provide abundant transport capacity to meet the visitors’ needs.

10 Bus No.1 

Bus No.1 starts from Laoshan Stop in the west and ends at Sihui Stop in the east, with a total length of 26 kilometers. It passes a range of landmarks including the Museum of Chinese People’s Revolution, the Capital Museum, Tiananmen Square, the National Center for the Performing Arts, China World Trade Center.

With a history of 62 years, Bus No.1 has witnessed the transformation of the city and people’s lives along the Chang’an Ave.
