Pompeii Mythology

National Library -

The "Love Luxury Beauty in Classic Antique Masterpieces" exhibition brings together 127 precious artifacts from the collection of National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Various items including sculptures, frescoes, ceramics, bronze wares, glassware offer a close-up view of ancient Greek and Roman culture. Many of these artifacts were unearthed at the Pompeii-Herculaneum archaeological site, a natural history museum in itself. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in the myths of ancient Greece and Rome, with sculptures depicting Hermes, Pan, Cupid, Bacchus, and more, illustrating the societal impact of these myths. Realistic portrayals of Roman women and authentic recreations of Pompeii scenes provide insight into Roman life, love, and vitality.

Learning from the Past and Know the Future: China’s Archaeological Achievements in the New Era 

National Museum -

This exhibition highlights  the top ten archaeological discoveries in China since 2012, showcasing nearly 400 of the latest archaeological artifacts unearthed by 43 cultural and archaeological institutions nationwide. The artifacts cover a wide range of periods, from the Paleolithic era to the Song and Yuan dynasties, and span a variety of fields, such as underwater archaeology, field archaeology, borderland archaeology and Silk Road archaeology. Significant discoveries on display include Notable discoveries featured in the exhibition include the Piluo Site in Daocheng county, Sichuan province, the Xiwubi Site in Jiang county, Shanxi province, the Western Zhou cemetery at Shigushan in Baoji city, Shaanxi province, and the Xuewei Tomb No. 1 in Dulan county, Qinghai province. 

The exhibition, divided into four sections: “The Dawn of Civilization,” “Harmony among All,” “Unification of the Country,” and “Sharing a Common Future,” vividly recounts the history of human origins in China, the emergence and formation of the Chinese civilization, and the establishment and development of a unified multi-ethnic nation. It highlights the Chinese civilization’s significant contributions to world civilization, and provides a comprehensive view of the formation and development of the Chinese nation and Chinese civilization as a diverse and integrated whole, and the home and nation as a cohesive unit.

Mao Yan

Song Art Museum -

This exhibition is the ’first major solo exhibition since the new director took office at Song Art Museum and marks Mao Yan's first museum-level solo exhibition in Beijing in over a decade. The exhibition opens with Mao Yan's 1997 work "My Poet" and is divided into 13 sections, showcasing the artist’s 26 years of creation. the exhibition presents Mao Yan's exploration of realism, abstraction, and consciousness in portraiture. Through his works, Mao Yan not only conveys rich meanings and poetic density but also reveals his innovative approach to contemporary portrait creation.

WADE & LETA's First Exhibition in China: BIG BANG

E03 Gallery's new exhibition, "BIG BANG," marks the China debut of New York visual artist couple Wade and Leta. It will be on display from September 28 to December 17, 2023. Their exhibition "BIG BANG" features 30 new works, including sculptures, mixed-media artworks, light installations, and interactive spaces. Through vibrant colors, intricate details, and imaginative concepts, "Wade and Leta" invite viewers into their visually immersive world, exploring themes of graphic explosions and nostalgic animation.

Stories as Mirrors: Fifteen Artists and Their Children

From September 16, 2023, to October 15, 2023, UCCA Kids presents a special group exhibition titled "Stories as Mirrors: Fifteen Artists and Their Children." Fifteen artists and their children present diverse aspects of parent-child relationships and individual feelings often overlooked in daily life. While exploring the human emotional instinct, the exhibition also unveils the curtain of the artist's family life: the small daily life, frolic and playing, children's whispering, improvised graffiti... These seemingly ordinary moments prompt everyone to recall many life fragments like this, and think about the vertical and horizontal dimensions of parent-child relationship in this context.

In the intricate and bustling era, we are all inevitably confronted with the sensation of "division" of our identity and beliefs. The artist Y-Hatcher, employs a myriad of mediums - from installations, videos, photography, to sculptures - to present us with this multi-dimensional portrayal and synesthetic experiences of division. He invites us to step into this oscillating realm of perception, to face head-on the nuanced relationship and inherent alienation between humans and the world. "Division" not only unravels the complexities of the era in which we live but also depicts how humanity seeks its identity amidst multiple backgrounds. How, after all, do we transcend division to genuinely reconnect with nature, the cosmos, and ourselves?

From September 16, 2023, to October 16, 2023, the Soul Art Center presents Meng Site's latest solo exhibition "Future Land of Happiness." Through vibrant colors and intricate details, Meng Site invites viewers into his surreal world, exploring themes of history, museology, and psychological reality.

The Power of Painting: Between Ideas and Beliefs

Silk Road International Arts Center –

This exhibition explores the development of painting since modernism and its continuous self-innovation in form and image. The three sections of this exhibition, approaching the perspectives of medium, perception, and image, serve as three contexts that encompass various themes reflecting the evolution of painting from a global perspective, and correspond to several contemporary painting traditions, namely abstraction, realism, and appropriation. Globalization has led to the homogenization of painting in terms of appearance, which still reveals differences shaped by different cultural contexts and political-economic development processes, and exhibits great diversity in the works of different artists.
