Exhibition of Lawrence Weiner artworks kicks off in Beijing

2024-07-26

An exhibition titled Lawrence Weiner: A Pursuit of Happiness ASAP kicked off Saturday at the Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) in Beijing. This exhibition is the renowned US artist Lawrence Weiner's first major presentation in China, showcasing nearly 50 works.

Born in 1942, the artist passed away in 2021. The exhibition selected drawings, posters, and moving images from the almost 1,200 he created over more than half a century.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, the UCCA will organize three themed conversations that discuss the contributions of Weiner to the history of art and the development of conceptual art in China. The conversations will also explore the broader world his works reveal from the perspectives of language philosophy and translation studies. The Cinema Arts program will feature 10 short films out of the 26 that Weiner created during his active period, offering audiences an additional encounter with the many mediums in which he worked.

In addition, an original performance Move About to Allow the Light, which draws inspiration from Weiner's works, will be presented to the public as well.

The exhibition will end on October 20.
