In the 1980s, Beijing Subway Line 2 first installed six murals on its platforms, pioneering the setting of public artworks in domestic subways.
At Jianguomen Station, the two murals on both sides of the platform have accompanied passengers for 40 years.
The mural "History of Chinese Astronomy" in the outer ring depicts stories such as Nuwa patched the holes in Heaven and Houyi shot the sun, outlining the 5,000-year development history of Chinese astronomy.
The mural "Four Great Inventions" in the inner ring showcases papermaking, compass, gunpowder, and printing through the use of symbols like the magnetic compass and the compass rose, with bright and eye-catching colors.
