On June 14, the Charm of Brush and Ink-Xia Xiangping's Calligraphy Works exhibition, jointly organized by the National Art Museum of China and the Chinese Calligraphers Association, opened to the public.

This exhibition is part of the NAMOC Donation and Collection Exhibition Series and is divided into three sections. It features over 125 calligraphy works by Xia Xiangping from various periods of his career, with 30 pieces being part of the museum's collection.

Xia Xiangping has devoted over eighty years to the study of calligraphy, exploring various historical styles and developing a distinctive personal style. He understands that calligraphy should reflect the trends and cultural spirit of its time, viewing change as the lifeblood of the art. He adheres to the principle of "learning from others to enrich myself and blending ideas to create originality", striving to translate traditional calligraphy into contemporary contexts. His exploration integrates the methods of cursive, seal, and clerical scripts, infusing his interpretations to create a unique synthesis. His works shows the robust and expansive spirit of seal and clerical scripts while incorporating the ideals and discipline of a soldier. His calligraphy reflects a harmony between personal integrity and artistic precision. He has been a dedicated mentor, significantly contributing to the development and training of calligraphy talents within both military and civilian contexts. As a practitioner, explorer, organizer, and builder, he has achieved a high level of artistry through his virtuous character.

Known for his sincerity and humility, Xia Xiangping excels in all four script styles, particularly in clerical script, which has earned him wide acclaim for its elegant and distinctive style. His generous donation not only enriches the calligraphy collection of the National Art Museum of China but also highlights his noble character and selfless spirit as a nonagenarian artist in the new era.
