Recently completed along the Great Wall Cultural Belt, Yanqing Donghu Park’s waterfront spaces have been transformed with the addition of 7 scenic spots and better nighttime illumination, bringing vibrancy to the Great Wall Cultural Belt. Donghu Park will introduce a large-scale immersive performance titled “Guihe Night Painting” that allows visitors to boat under the Great Wall at night.

As night falls, lights illuminate both sides of the Donghu Park, which resembles a colorful ribbon. From afar, the bustling Xiadu Bridge overlooks the flowing Gui River with the towering Guichuan Pagoda shining brightly. Newly built fitness trails and viewing platforms on both sides of the water attract locals and tourists alike for nighttime excursions.

In recent years, Yanqing District has diligently implemented plans for the construction of Beijing Great Wall National Park and strived to lead the development and preservation of the Great Wall culture. Besides projects in heritage conservation and culture promotion, a series of environment enhancement projects along the Great Wall Cultural Belt have significantly improved the quality of public spaces.

Located in the heart of Yanqing’s urban center and approximately 18 kilometers from the Badaling Great Wall scenic area, Donghu Park is a prominent city landmark. In January this year, the Commission of Urban Management of Yanqing District launched the Donghu Park waterfront project, which focused on landscape enhancements and improved nighttime lighting. Extending from Shifan Road to Guishui South Street, and from Hubei East Road to Hunan Road, enhancements cover approximately 37,000 square meters, including 6,000 square meters of new fitness trails and 8 new scenic platforms. Areas around Guichuan Pagoda and from Yanqing Sports Stadium to Guichuan Pagoda have undergone renovations to transform the landscape.

Presently, the park features 7 scenic spots which highlight its distinctive urban waterfront spaces. Furthermore, improvements to Guichuan Pagoda and Guishui South Street and enhanced lighting facilities around sports stadiums, gymnasiums and swimming pools in Yanqing District create a picturesque nighttime atmosphere throughout Donghu Park and its surroundings.

As night descends, the Guichuan Pagoda light show begins. Accompanied by melodic music, dazzling and colorful patterns can be seen on the pagoda. Six original compositions alternate and echo the natural and cultural stories of the Guichuan region to residents and visitors.
