At around 8 a.m. on June 3, the critical project of the BMC section of the Beijing-Tangshan Intercity Railway, the completion of the supported steel box girder arch bridge across Tongji Road, was accomplished. In the future, after the completion of the BMC section of the Beijing-Tangshan Intercity Railway, it will be possible to travel directly from Tangshan Railway Station to Beijing Sub-center Railway Station.
The Beijing-Tangshan Intercity Railway is being constructed in two segments. The segment from Yanjiao to Tangshan, operated by China Railway Beijing Group, was opened on December 30, 2022. The remaining BMC section is 2.4 kilometers long, starting from Beijing Sub-center Railway Station, running along the south side of the existing Beijing-Harbin Railway corridor, tunneling under Tonghu Road, the ancient city site of Luxian County, and Yunchaojian River, and emerging after crossing the second phase of the Intercity Link Line.
The supported steel box girder arch bridge across Tongji Road is 75.75 meters long, located at the intersection of Tongyan Expressway and Tongji Road in Tongzhou District, Beijing. It spans Tongji Road, adjacent to Beijing Sub-center Railway Station, and is the last bridge of the BMC section of the Beijing-Tangshan Intercity Railway construction project. In the future, passengers departing from Beijing Sub-center Railway Station on the Beijing-Tangshan Intercity Railway will see this bridge as the first structure after departure.
Once the BMC section of the Beijing-Tangshan Intercity Railway is completed, it will enable direct travel from Tangshan Railway Station to Beijing Sub-center Railway Station. This will further strengthen the connection between Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei provinces and cities, significantly contribute to relieving Beijing of functions non-essential to its role as the capital, drive economic and social development along the route, enhance the overall competitiveness of the region, and implement the national strategy for coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
