Times of the Imperial Kiln-Selected Exhibition of Porcelain Unearthed From Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Site

2024-06-04

This exhibition, jointly organized by the Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Institute and the China Agricultural Museum, is held in the newly renovated Red House Art Space on the north shore of the China Agricultural Museum's rear lake. It features nearly 140 of the most representative restored and sample porcelain pieces from the Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln site.

Jingdezhen, known as the porcelain capital for  thousands of years, has a legacy deeply intertwined with agricultural civilization and ceramic art. The porcelain unearthed from the Imperial Kiln site is particularly significant. As the royal kiln factory for over five centuries during the Ming and Qing dynasties, Jingdezhen maintained a close relationship with the capital, supplying precious porcelain to adorn national and imperial ceremonies and daily life. The decorations, colors, shapes, and functions of the Imperial Kiln porcelain reflect distinct seasonal phenomena and folk customs, closely linked with agriculture. This made porcelain a medium for promoting agrarian ideology. The exhibition explores the historical evolution, institutional changes, craftsmanship and cultural significance of the royal kilns of the Ming and Qing dynasties, interpreting the interactive relationship between ceramic culture and agricultural civilization.

The exhibition is divided into three sections: "Discovery and Encounter", "Research and Reexamination" and "Genealogy and Regeneration". Many "star" exhibits are included, also featured on the exhibition posters. They are not only of high artistic value but also precious witnesses of historical culture.

To deepen your understanding of the history and cultural connotations of Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln porcelain, renowned experts in ancient ceramics will be invited to host several academic lectures. Additionally, the Red House Art Space includes a rest area for visitors, offering delicious refreshments. Here, you can continue to enjoy the charm of Imperial Kiln porcelain by your eyes and taste.
