Early on April 25th, the children's book market at the Beijing Book Fair 2024, held in Chaoyang Park, was already bustling with crowds. Nineteen booths displayed nearly ten thousand kinds of books, delighting book enthusiasts with an irresistible array of choices.
At the children's book market, the Beijing Taihu Publication Exhibition and Trade Center teamed up with numerous children's book publishers such as Juvenile and Children's Publishing House and Hunan Juvenile and Children's Publishing House under the brand "YueTaoTao". They showcased a wide array of children's picture books, children's literature, high-quality books for young adults, and cultural and creative products. The market featured selected titles such as pop-up books and picture books from the leading brand "LeLeQu," enlightening children's minds. Publications like "100,000 Whys" from Juvenile and Children's Publishing House broadened children's horizons. Anhui Children's Publishing House presented "Ultraman's 55th Anniversary Commemorative Album," instilling eternal belief in children's hearts. Additionally, there were series like "Warriors" and "Detective Mike Fox," offering mystery-solving adventures, and "Mi Xiaoquan Comics History," which transformed children into clever detectives or historical figures, guiding them through the river of history.
In addition, numerous children's book publishers such as Children's Fun Publishing Co., Ltd., CITIC Publishing Group, and Dolphin Books also participated in the children's book market, showcasing a variety of renowned picture books by well-known authors and illustrators. "We hope to open the door for children to explore classical literary masterpieces in the most accessible way for them," said Xu Wei, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Publications Distribution Group Co., Ltd., while introducing exquisite picture books.
Bai Yanting, Director of the New Business Development Center at the Beijing Taihu Publication Exhibition and Trade Center, told reporters that in today's competitive children's book industry, publishers are pulling out all the stops to attract readers. Reporters witnessed several publishers launching lucky draw activities onsite, with prizes ranging from classic collectible cards of "Dream of the Red Chamber" to exquisite postcards.
Even newly released books are offering discounts of up to 50%, which was rare in the past. "Mi Xiaoquan Comics History," a new book launched in March this year, is available at a special price of 45 yuan. "The capital of Tang Dynasty," vividly presenting the The Dayan Pagoda and Tang poetry in pop-up book form, was initially priced at 299 yuan but quickly sold out, prompting urgent restocking.
At the booth featuring cultural and creative products inspired by classic literature, exquisite accessories and illustrations are particularly eye-catching. The booth manager pointed to a keychain featuring characters from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and explained that most of the cultural and creative products sold are based on secondary creations inspired by literary works. Many of these striking illustrations can also be displayed in living rooms for appreciation.
Children love to read comic books and manga series, according to Lu Yao, Sales Manager of the Sales Department at Dolphin Books. Favorites among children include series like "Detective Conan" and "Transformers." After finishing her morning jog, reader Fang Fang feels fulfilled and energized by buying a couple of books for her children. "A few days ago, I bought two books titled 'Plants vs. Zombies: Brain Teasers' at the book fair, and my child really enjoys them," she said. Fang Fang mentioned that her child doesn't usually like to read much, so she wants to take advantage of this opportunity to buy a few more books and encourage him to develop the habit of reading from a young age.
