See You Again, Huizong

2024-04-24

Touch fragments of Song Dynasty porcelain, imitate Huizong playing the Chinese zither under the pine tree, and appreciate the beauty of porcelain and paintings in the Song Dynasty. The exhibition “See you again, Huizong” is held at the China Millennium Monument Art Museum. With the aesthetic sense of Emperor Huizong as its guiding thread and 'Tea and Painting' as its central theme, this exhibition showcases the most representative ceramic and painting techniques of the Song Dynasty through porcelain objects and paintings. The exhibition also incorporates immersive experiences and numerous interactive elements, guiding visitors to delve into the charm of Song Dynasty aesthetics.

Emperor Huizong can be regarded as one of the most artistically accomplished ancient Chinese emperors. Not only was he proficient in calligraphy and painting, but his skills in playing the guqin (the Chinese zither) were also extraordinary. Upon entering the exhibition hall, visitors are greeted by the scene depicted in Emperor Huizong's painting 'Listening to the guqin'. Before a tall and straight pine tree, there is a table holding a guqin and a black crane-knee table. Visitors can sit down to play the guqin, experiencing the romantic and artistically rich life at that time. Such tangible and light-and-shadow scenes can be seen throughout the exhibition hall, allowing visitors to 'time-travel to the Song Dynasty' in an instant.

The exhibition will run until May 9th. During the exhibition, special lectures on academic topics such as "Viewing the Lifestyle of the Song Dynasty through Paintings" and "The Influence of Song Dynasty Furniture on Ming Dynasty Suzhou Furniture" will be held by invited experts and scholars.
