Looking at the map, the geographical distribution of world heritage sites and famous historical and cultural cities in China is clearly visible, with each historical and cultural landmark easily identifiable. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the implementation of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development strategy, the "Main Distribution Map of Major Historical and Cultural Resources in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region", jointly completed by multiple planning, construction, and cultural units from the three regions, has been officially released to accelerate the revitalization of historical relics in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
The distribution map displays the spatial distribution of major historical and cultural resources in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. It represents the first systematic organization, objective display, and authoritative release of historical and cultural resources in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region based on a unified spatial framework.
According to statistics, as of 2023, China has 57 world heritage sites, among which 8 are in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City (Palace Museum), the Zhoukoudian Site, the Mountain Resort and Temple Arounds, the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, the Summer Palace in Beijing, the Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the Grand Canal. The location of each world heritage site is clearly marked on the distribution map.
The distribution map also showcases nationally important cultural heritage sites, as well as China's historical and cultural cities, towns, and villages. As of 2023, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has a total of 8 historical and cultural cities, 10 historical and cultural towns, and 38 historical and cultural villages. Among the 5058 China Cultural Heritage announced by the State Council in eight batches, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has 474 sites. This includes the Forbidden City, Imperial Archives, Juyongguan Pass Watchtower, and Red Mansion of Peking University's in Beijing; the Dule Temple, Thousand-Buddha Pagoda, Former Site of Beiyang University, and Former Site of the Headquarters of the Pingjin Campaign in Tianjin; and the Longxing Temple, Baoding Bell Tower, Xigu Castle, and Former Site of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in Xibaipo in Hebei Province.
With shared mountains, rivers, and interconnected land, the people of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei share close cultural ties and have a natural foundation for mutual integration and collaborative development. "The release of the distribution map is conducive to further public understanding of the splendid historical and cultural heritage of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, jointly protecting, inheriting, and utilizing its rich historical and cultural heritage to promote high-quality coordinated development in the region," said a representative of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Construction.
