Ancient towns in Beijing | Yongning Ancient Town

2024-02-29

Yongning Ancient Town is located 18 kilometers east of the urban area of Yanqing District, Beijing. Its organizational system began in the Tang Dynasty. In the 12th year of Emperor Yongle in the Ming Dynasty, Yongning County was set up at the foot of Tuanshan Mountain. Its name "Yongning" came from "Qi Ning Wei Yong" (stay peaceful for a long time) from The Book of History.

Yongning has many scenic spots, including the Yuhuang Pavilion, ancient streets, ancient alleys, and ancient temples. It is the transportation hub in the eastern mountainous area of Yanqing and is now the seat of the People's Government of Yongning Twon.

This is a town full of nostalgic sense and history. Most visitors will buy some local specialties before returning home. Many shops are selling various specialties on both sides of the street. Citizens of urban areas often come to the market to buy the specialties. It is worth mentioning that the special huoshao cakes that can only be bought here are crisp on the surface, soft in the inner layer, and very cheap.

Yongning's ancient streets have a long history. Especially in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the culture and economy here have been greatly developed. At that time, there were shops and businessmen everywhere, and Yongning was a commercial distribution center for businessmen from Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Tianjin, and other regions.

Therefore it was full of hotels, inns, and restaurants. Now walking in the streets, visitors can still find some traces of those times, which seem to have passed through the Ming and Qing Dynasties in an instant.
