Heading out for a trip and feeling inconvenienced with luggage? Nowadays, even subway stations have storage lockers!

It is known from the Beijing Subway that in an effort to improve passenger convenience, the company is piloting storage locker services at stations near tourist attractions and transportation hubs. Currently, the pilot project for luggage storage lockers has successfully completed project approval and construction review. Nine sets of shared storage lockers have been installed and put into use at five stations, including Military Museum Station on Line 1, Fengtai Railway Station on Line 10, Happy Valley Station on Line 7, Songjiazhuang Station on Yizhuang Line, and Suzhuang Station on Fangshan Line.

This afternoon, a reporter visited Fengtai Railway Station on Beijing Subway Line 10 and noticed a row of yellow storage lockers newly placed in the station. Passengers can use these lockers to store or retrieve luggage by scanning a QR code via WeChat. Qi Yan, the Deputy General Manager of Beijing Subway Resource Development and Operation Company, explained that the sharing storage lockers operate from 5:30 to 22:30. Passengers can store luggage upon arrival at the station without needing to exit. The lockers come in three sizes—large, medium, and small—to accommodate different storage needs, and fees vary based on locker size.

"On the first day of operation, the storage volume at Fengtai Station has already reached over 300. From the operating data, it is evident that the luggage lockers are being fully utilized," Qi Yan explained.

The sharing storage lockers are made of high-strength metal materials and equipped with electromagnetic locks and sensors, ensuring high security performance to safeguard passengers' belongings. Notices such as "Please check if valuables are stored" and "Please do not store flammable or explosive items" are posted on the front of the lockers to remind passengers to pay attention to safety. The operating unit will regularly conduct maintenance and upkeep, including cleaning the lockers and inspecting the locks, to ensure that the equipment operates normally and remains safe and stable.
