2024 Global Zodiac Design Competition Invitational Exhibition to be held

2024-01-22

Themed "be auspicious every year", the 2024 Global Zodiac Design Competition Invitational Exhibition will be held at the same time at the Cultural Space of Beijing Overseas Cultural Exchange Center (BOCEC) and the Temple of Bliss Interpretation in Beihai Park. Full of the atmosphere of the Chinese New Year (CNY), the two wonderful exhibitions are waiting for you to visit!

As the only fictional supernatural animal in the Chinese zodiac, the dragon is a symbol of wisdom, strength, robustness, and majesty imagined by the ancient Chinese people for the integration of various animals and natural phenomena. The dragon image represents the Chinese nation's respect for the natural world and the integration and coexistence of multiple cultures. The dragon culture has long penetrated various fields such as religion, philosophy, politics, economy, literature, art, society, and folk customs in ancient China, showing a strong inheritance and being a testimony of the continuous and pluralistic integration of Chinese civilization for thousands of years.

Design Competition Invitational Exhibition has reached a record high in the number of exhibits, and the variety has also reached the highest. It opens to the public for the first time in the form of a double exhibition, not only exhibiting the award-winning works of the Year of the Dragon but also the best works in the past. We have invited domestic artists such as Han Meilin, Chen Wenling, and Shen Hongbiao, as well as Mexican sculptor Sebastián and Chinese sculptor Wu Xinkun in the United States to participate. The exhibited works organically combine the Chinese zodiac dragon with contemporary innovative design, and highlight the profound charm of Chinese zodiac culture in a younger, fashionable, and international expression.

The Beihai Park is the world's oldest and best-preserved royal garden, full of Chinese dragon elements. The Nine-Dragon Wall is the only double-sided Nine-Dragon Wall among the three existing Nine-Dragon Walls in China, and the Five-Dragon Pavilion is like a giant dragon stretching out into the water.

The other leg of the expo is located on the northern side of the Beihai Lake, north of the Five-Dragon Pavilion. In addition to displaying the 72 award-winning works of the Global Zodiac Design Competition for the Year of Jiachen Dragon, the exhibition also exhibits 35 sculptures and paintings by famous contemporary artists such as Han Meilin, 120 prints concerning the Year of the Dragon jointly created by teachers and students of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and cultural and creative products for the Year of the Dragon.
