It was revealed from the 2024 Chaoyang District Two Sessions in Beijing that in 2023, the district has completed afforestation and green planting covering an area of approximately 206 million square meters. Ten parks, including Dongba Park and Beijing Forest Park, underwent functional improvements. In 2024, an additional six parks will undergo further enhancements, aiming to create a garden city demonstration area surrounded by forests, accompanied by parks, surrounded by blue sky and green grass, and adorned with colorful flowers.
Chaoyang District is a pioneering demonstration area for the construction of boundary-free parks in Beijing. As of now, the total area of open parks in Chaoyang District exceeds 2,100 hectares, with a total of 68 open parks.
In 2023, more parks and green spaces were added in Chaoyang District. The district completed afforestation and green planting covering an area of about 206 million square meters. Among them, Guanzhuang Xinghui Park and the second phase of the southern part of the Shibalidian Forest Park were opened to the public. The second phase of the highly anticipated Wenyuhe Park in the Chaoyang section began construction in April. The Chaoping Park in Pingfang Township has also started construction and will be open to the public this year.
In 2024, Chaoyang District is going to develop projects such as Fengguan Park in the Shibalidian Township and Eastern Suburb Forest Park. Meanwhile, in conjunction with urban renewal efforts, the focus will be on key areas such as the Electronic City North Zone, Dongbabei West Zone, and Jinzhan Central Zone. Collaborating with relevant departments, the district aims to create key demonstration projects like the International Talent Park and Bahe Yidigang City Riverside Core Area, demonstrating garden-style scenes.
Besides the above efforts, Chaoyang District is carrying out "micro renovations" in the green spaces in various parks, creating more all-age-friendly parks for residents. According to Chaoyang District Forestry and Parks Bureau, in 2023, the transformation of three all-age-friendly parks, including Datun Cultural Square and Wurui Park, was completed, covering a total area of 7.41 hectares. This further meets the leisure and fitness needs of residents of different ages in the surrounding areas. Meanwhile, in conjunction with the construction of Chaoyang's greenways, the district enhanced the ecological functions, landscapes, and supporting service facilities in 10 parks including Dongba Park, Beijing Forest Park, Beijing Liyuan Park, Beijing Huaiyuan Park, Jiangfu Park, Chaolai Forest Park, Huangcaowan Park, Hongbo Park, Guta Park, and Laojuntang Park.
The 10 parks undergoing improvement have distinctive features. In Dongba Park, the path network was adjusted and perfected that also serves as greenways for jogging. Meanwhile, it was planned and implemented together with the Chaoyang greenways to achieve smooth connection between park paths and greenways. The original low-lying terrain in Beijing Forest Park is transformed into a wetland water system based on its natural terrain advantages, creating a diverse ecological environment. With the existing water system, bird watching and natural education are highlighted in Hongbo Park, forming a scientific and educational showcase area. expanded children's activity spaces are expanded in Huangcaowan Park and other functions like woodland camping are added.
In 2024, Chaoyang District plans to further enhance and renovate six more parks, enhancing various types of infrastructure, strengthening ecological service, improving the visitor experience, and making parks ideal places for citizens to appreciate flowers, relax, and engage in sports and fitness activities. Meanwhile, improvements to equip parks and paths with flowers and trees will also be continued. The plan includes implementing vertical greening of 35 locations along the Third Ring Road and Fourth Ring Road, constructing 10 distinctive urban blocks, creating three rooftop gardens, advancing the construction of all-age-friendly parks including Ritan Park and Xiba River Green Area, and further enhancing the function in green areas throughout the district.
