Beijing Grand Canal Museum opens 5 cultural, creative spaces with 500+ Canal gifts

2024-01-08

During the New Year's holiday, Beijing Grand Canal Museum, also called the Capital Museum East Branch, opened five new cultural and creative spaces, including Canal Scenery, Canal Book House, Canal Teahouse, Canal Food Ship and Canal Shop, showcasing over 500 unique themed products.

Here, visitors can take part in a range of interactive activities such as traditional Chinese joinery, calligraphy and lantern making, all while exploring the history of the canal.

One highlight of the museum is the themed post office located within the creative center, featuring an ancient relief printing press that lets visitors create and send their own hand-printed postcards made using traditional techniques. Commemorative envelopes for the museum record its location and opening date. The front features a bird's-eye view sketch of the museum, complemented by a red seal in Chinese script.

Additionally, the creative center features an engraving machine which visitors can use to create commemorative badges. The badges come in a variety of designs, including images of the museum's exterior, Grand Canal boats, and the museum's "Seated Dragon Bronze." Visitors can select their preferred design and add their own personal touch to the back of the badge.

Meanwhile, a selection of ice creams, teas, and snacks are available, all with a canal-inspired twist. There's also a special coffee cup with a colorful illustrated map of the Grand Canal and its various landmarks.
