The cozy pleasure of enjoying a pot of tea in Beijing's winter day

2024-01-04

Compared to bustling tea restaurants and milk tea shops with long queues, tea houses seem more peaceful. Sitting in a tea house, savoring the aroma of tea, it feels like all fatigue disappears and a whole day can be spent in one sitting.

Lao She Tea House

Lao She Tea House was established in 1988, located on the southwest side of Qianmen Arrow Tower. Its business purpose is to "revitalize the ancient Chinese tea culture and promote national artistic flowers". It is a cultural gathering place for traditional Beijing tea houses, including six forms: book tea house, meal tea house, clear tea house, big tea house, wild tea house, and clear sound table. It includes four major business formats: tea, drama, dining, and gift.

There are three floors in the tea house. The first floor is the inquiry desk and display area for some old objects. The second floor is the tea art display area, which not only displays various tea products but also has live tea art performances. The third floor is the liveliest place, with performances every day, such as cross talk, acrobatics, magic, and Beijing opera drumming, which are very enjoyable to watch.

During leisure time, invite a few good friends to taste tea, watch performances, and spend a whole day leisurely, which is very comfortable.

Laijinyu Xuan Tea House

Enter from the main gate of Zhongshan Park, walk north along the winding east corridor, and next to the ancient cypress group is the Laijinyu Xuan Tea House, a traditional building with four beams and eight pillars built in 1915.

"Laijinyu Xuan" is taken from the preface of the famous Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu's "Autumn Description( Qiushu)". The name "Laijinyu" means that new and old friends come here to gather.

In Lu Xun's diary, it is recorded that Lu Xun visited Zhongshan Park 82 times, of which 60 times he visited Laijinyu Xuan. Even when he collaborated with his old friend Qi Zongyi to translate "Little John", he visited for more than 30 consecutive days. Lu Xun's love for Laijinyu Xuan can be seen. He not only translated and wrote here, but also tasted tea, dined, and enjoyed flowers with friends. "Winter vegetable buns with flower tea" has become a must-taste "Lu Xun style" meal for tourists.

Now, the first floor of Laijinyu Xuan Tea House has restored the tea table layout used by revolutionaries and advanced cultural figures during their activities here, providing visitors with a place to chat while enjoying tea. The second floor is the "Young China Society Theme Exhibition Area" and the "Cultural Research Association Theme Exhibition Area", where portraits and small stories of cultural celebrities who participated in the activities of the society and association are displayed, and visitors can view the exhibition for free. A cup of jasmine tea and a plate of winter vegetable buns allow visitors to not only taste the most delicious flavors of the past, but also look back on that difficult period of red history.
