More places can be added to your list of citywalk! Top ten "most beautiful streets and alleys in Beijing" for 2023 have been released. Ten streets and alleys include Zhonglouwan Hutong located at the foot of the time-honored Bell and Drum Towers, the Liuyin Street renowned for the joint construction of military-civilian support, and the garden-style Wen Huiyuan Street, which focuses on addressing the "five concerns and five expectations" of the masses.

To display the improvement of the environment of streets and alleys and the achievements in improving impolite behavior, and to strengthen the demonstration and guidance, Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Management, Beijing Civilization Office, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, and Beijing Daily jointly launched the "Most Beautiful Streets and Alleys of Beijing". As one of the most important parts of the "Most Beautiful Streets in My City" series of activities, Beijing has launched the "Most Beautiful Streets in Beijing" selection activity for five consecutive years.

The 10 most beautiful streets and alleys in Beijing selected this time have their own characteristics. For example, Zhonglouwan Hutong is located at the foot of the famous landmark building, the Bell and Drum Towers. The hutong is surrounded by leisure and entertainment facilities such as the Bell and Drum Tower Cultural Square and the Elderly Care Center, providing convenient services for the residents. The Liuyin Street, located just a wall away from the Prince Kung's Palace, is a famous model street for the joint construction of military-civilian support. Marshal Xu Xiangqian inscribed the title to praise the "Yinliu Military-Civilian support Street". Wenhuiyuan Road relies on different landmarks such as the China Film Archive and the "Xiaoxitian" archway to create four themed sections: "Contemporary Section, Community Section, Film Section, and Gateway Section", along the 1300-meter-long street. Important cultural elements such as Trees Enveloped in Mist at the Ancient City of Jizhou, Taiping Lake, and Drinking Horse Trough, which are part of the Eight Great Sights of Yanjing, are extracted and used on the relief background. Besides, in the process of improving the management of streets and alleys, Wenhuiyuan Road has also provided around 200 parking spaces by staggering parking and utilizing corners.

In recent years, Beijing has carried out two rounds of three-year actions to improve the environment of streets and alleys, enhancing environmental quality for people. In 2023, Beijing launched a new three-year action plan for the management of streets and alleys. A total of 5,393 streets and alleys in the city will be renovated to meet the standards of high-quality within three years. Compared with previous themes "beautiful streets and alleys" and "qualified streets and alleys," the "high-quality streets and alleys" created for the first time need to inherit culture and history, have high-quality greenery, leisure spaces, and convenient facilities. The ten most beautiful streets and alleys in Beijing for 2023 were selected from the first batch of "high-quality streets and alleys" through a rigorous selection process. This year's selection takes into account the environment and social order of alleys, as well as factors such as humanities, history, and convenient supporting facilities. It promotes the organic integration of historical culture and modern life, creates high-quality modern living spaces, and achieves optimized street and alley functions, as well as a harmonious and livable environment.
