Tianjin Museum launches the inaugural 'Sign Language Salon' event

2023-11-30

To advance the construction of barrier-free museums in the city, Tianjin Museum recently organized the inaugural "Sign Language Salon" event with the theme "Fate of Sign Language, Stand by Me." This initiative aims to provide more refined cultural services for the hearing-impaired people.

During the event, teachers from the museum's image information department utilized a combination of games, learning, and communication to guide volunteers in recognizing and learning sign language.

Since 2022, with the support of the Tianjin Disabled Persons' Federation, Tianjin Museum has been leveraging its strengths to establish a barrier-free museum. To enhance the barrier-free visiting experience, the museum has introduced a series of sign language interpretation videos and trained 21 sign language interpreters for the local museum system. Additionally, to help disabled individuals better understand and appreciate cultural relics, the museum has curated and released sign language instructional videos for 200 cultural and museum-related terms. This year, Tianjin Museum continues to deepen these efforts by hosting the "Tianjin Cultural and Tourism System Sign Language Guided Volunteer Service Sign Language Promotion Training Class" in collaboration with the Tianjin Disabled Persons' Federation. This program has successfully trained 48 sign language promoters.
