Beijing Public Transport Hall to be open to the public starting December 1

2023-11-30

Starting from December 1, the Beijing Public Transport Hall will initiate a trial run, officially opening its doors to the public. As the largest exhibition venue in the domestic urban bus industry, boasting the most extensive collection and the longest history, the Beijing Public Transport Hall will narrate the century-long journey of Beijing's public transportation through over 6,000 exhibited items. During the trial period, visitors can make free reservations through phone registration.

Approved and recorded by the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau, the museum covers an exhibition area of 5,000 square meters and features a collection of over 6,000 items, including 16 main bus models and over 10 interactive zones. Utilizing six thematic elements – "people, vehicles, routes, tickets, stations, and events," the museum comprehensively presents the centennial progress of Beijing's public transportation.

Organized around the main thread of social development, the exhibition comprises five timelines and eight thematic sections, highlighting significant historical events such as the founding of the tram company, the liberation of Beiping, the convening of the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and the convening of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It emphasizes the origins and operational conditions of Beijing's public transportation, exploration during times of conflict, rejuvenation after liberation, the successful restoration of a hundred vehicles, the development of the "57-type" and "Jing-1 type," exploration of green public transportation construction, participation in the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, and the implementation of the "14th Five-Year Plan."

The exhibition also focuses on themes such as party-building activities of enterprise, corporate culture, main bus models of all ages, public transportation routes, monthly and annual bus tickets, bus station names, notable figures, and cultural anecdotes. It is divided into eight thematic sections: "Century Navigation," "Century Accumulation," "Century Changes," "Century Radiance," "Century Memories," "Century Evolution," "Century Engraving," and "Century Imprint."

Employing a blend of traditional and modern exhibition methods, the museum incorporates numerous precious old photos and videos. Exhibits include valuable items like tram wheels, tracks, safes, winding machines, employee badges, and copper whistles. The vehicle exhibition hall features replicated and restored main bus models from Beijing's public transportation history. The exhibition also utilizes modern display techniques, offering simulated driving experiences and interactive features, creating a modern industry museum that integrates collection, research, display, education, and interaction.

During the trial run, the Beijing Public Transport Hall will implement phone reservations for visits. Once officially open, citizens can make reservations through the Beijing Public Transport Corporation official website and WeChat platform.
