Embracing all living beings, encountering a 'more ecological' Chaoyang Park

2023-11-14

In order to create a harmonious atmosphere for people and swans in the park and meet the needs of visitors to listen to and observe birds, since October, Chaoyang Park has actively planned to create a new attraction – Swan Sanctuary. Recently, the park's 12 black swans welcomed "new friends," as the 6 white swans that entered the park in October successfully took to the water to meet visitors. They harmoniously interact with other waterfowl, occasionally diving for food, and sometimes stepping onto the floating islands, playing hide and seek with visitors among the reeds and aquatic plants.

Adhering to the ecological concept of "respecting, adapting to, and protecting nature," Chaoyang Park, a subsidiary of Chaoyang Culture and Tourism Group, continues to strengthen ecological civilization construction within the park. Efforts are being made in areas such as ecological space construction, biodiversity conservation, and the transformation and upgrading of green and low-carbon facilities, resulting in a renewed ecological environment.

Actively building ecological spaces

The northern part of Chaoyang Park covers an area of 570,000 square meters, with a focus on natural ecology. After nearly twenty years of development, it has formed a relatively stable wetland community, providing diverse habitats for various species.

The Ecological Creek, built in 2004, covers an area of 14,000 square meters and is a valley formed between artificially stacked hills. Under the guidance of professionals, the park has enriched plant species, allowing plants to complement each other and coexist, creating an ecologically friendly space that is "closer to nature" in appearance and function.

The northern part also planted the nationally protected "living fossil" of the plant kingdom, the Chinese Swamp Cypress. This precious tree species for landscaping is effective in resisting harmful gases, providing not only aesthetic appeal but also purifying the air and preventing atmospheric pollution.

In addition, the park has added landscape boardwalks, waterfront platforms, waterfront trails, and other garden landscapes, with a paved area of about 1,500 square meters. It has redesigned the lakeshore greening landscape system, covering an area of about 5,000 square meters. Adjustments and additions to the shoreline landscape plants cover an area of 1,000 square meters. A new aquatic floating island covers about 1,000 square meters, bringing the total area of floating islands to 2,000 square meters. The ecological floating island not only provides a good habitat for birds but also utilizes water-purifying aquatic plants such as water iris, water hyacinth, and bird of paradise flower suspended in the water, further creating an ecological space.

Gradually improving the ecosystem achieves

Chaoyang Park is one of the three "biodiversity conservation demonstration parks" being developed in Chaoyang District. Small wild animals such as weasels, grey squirrels, and hedgehogs have been discovered in the park, thanks to two artificial shrub areas set up in the northern ecological area. These areas, consisting of stones, branches, leaves, etc., create a nesting space for small wild animals underneath, protecting plant roots from being gnawed.

In addition to ground environments, "insect hotels" are suspended on trees in the park. The various-sized gaps between wooden sticks and pine cones inside act as different-sized "rooms," attracting different insect "tenants" with different needs. Insects can use these spaces to avoid natural disasters, overwinter, breed, and nest.

Furthermore, Chaoyang Park has created an animal playground on the west side of the North Lake lawn, introducing 6 alpacas and 6 spotted deer. The animals bask in the sun on the 3,000-square-meter lawn, and the adorable postures of the alpacas and spotted deer have quickly made them popular, turning this area into a "children's paradise" for visitors.

Technology empowers green, low-carbon circular development

To deeply implement the concept of ecological civilization construction and adhere to green, low-carbon circular development, Chaoyang Park explores new construction methods that are green, energy-efficient, and low-carbon. It introduced 3D printing technology for the upgrade and transformation of two restrooms. With this, the two ladybug toilets, with a history of 24 years, have "officially retired."

The 3D printing process for restrooms follows the construction principles of "prefabricated assembly" and the production mode of digital construction. This helps achieve precise collaboration between multiple trades in the construction industry, reducing unnecessary resource consumption in material usage. Moreover, the main materials for concrete 3D printing are cement, construction waste, industrial waste, and mine tailing, effectively transforming construction waste into raw materials and realizing green construction.

The 3D printed restrooms also adopt diverse intelligent designs, including human body sensing in toilets, toilet occupancy status prompts, smart water and electricity meters, smart hand sanitizer dispensers, smart trash cans, etc. These features make visitors feel comfortable, secure, and reassured during restroom visits while improving the efficiency of corresponding management and maintenance work.

In the future, Chaoyang Park will continue to strengthen efforts in ecological environmental protection within the park, continuously upgrade and transform landscape facilities, actively guide visitors to experience the green development concept of "harmonious coexistence of humans and nature" by getting close to nature and integrating into nature. Chaoyang Culture and Tourism Group will also promote ecological civilization construction in Chaoyang Park, Aosen Park, and Wenyu River Park, contributing to building a "green Chaoyang," a "beautiful Chaoyang," allowing a beautiful life of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature to be within reach!
