2023-11-08

The Guangfu Ancient City is located in Yongnian District, Handan City, Hebei Province. It covers an area of 1.5 square kilometers and has a history of over 2,600 years. It was named after being the capital of Guangping Prefecture, one of the three prefectures in southern Hebei during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

The Guangfu Ancient City is located in the Yongnian Basin, which covers an area of 46,000 mu. Surrounding the city walls is a 5-kilometer-long and 100-meter-wide moat. Beyond the moat is a wetland, creating a unique landscape known as "a city surrounded by two waters". The basin is always filled with water, with lush reeds, coexisting fish and shrimp, and the sounds of geese and birds.

It is also the birthplace of Yang-style and Wu-style Tai Chi, giving rise to the founders of the two major schools, Yang Luchan and Wu Yuxiang. It is renowned as the hometown of Tai Chi.

Historically, the city walls of Guangfu Ancient City served as military defense facilities of traditional Chinese ancient cities. They are a perfect embodiment of ancient Chinese city wall construction techniques and layout, and hold important historical and aesthetic values in the preservation of ancient city walls in China.
