Some say that autumn in Beijing is too short. But did you know that it's precisely during this fleeting season that Beijing reveals its most beautiful side, with hills and waters adorned in vibrant autumn foliage? It's during this time that you can truly meet autumn in Beijing.

Jinhai Lake Scenic Area

Jinhai Lake is one of the areas where Beijing's ten major scenic areas autumn foliage tree species afforestation project has been implemented. The variety of deciduous trees here is abundant, with over ten different species, including the golden-leafed birch, red-leafed birch, sweetgum maple, torch tree, golden locust, and more.

Under the autumn sunlight, the hues of red, yellow, and green intertwine, creating a stunning, brilliant spectacle that's absolutely captivating.

Pofengling Scenic Area

Every year, during the golden autumn season, the suburban areas of Beijing are painted in myriad colors, casting a spell of autumn's charm. Pofengling Scenic Area in Zhoukoudian Town, Fangshan District, showcases its most resplendent beauty of the year.

The landscape of Pofengling boasts a sense of leisure and tranquility. The stone-paved trails, from the bottom to the top of the mountain, have a gentle slope, making the ascent easy. If Fragrant Hills in late autumn is described as "a blaze of red foliage adorning the hills," then Pofengling is like a "dance of multicolored ribbons in the midst of red, orange, yellow, green, and pink," with the colors beautifully contrasting with the blue sky and white clouds. From a distance, it looks like a flowing, colorful sea.

Yunmeng Mountain Scenic Spot

Autumn in Yunmeng Mountain is painted in shades of red. The trees along the mountain roads embrace the arrival of autumn with their yellowing leaves, signaling the change of seasons. In the midst of the lush green forest, the creeper plants along the road slowly transform in color, creating a picturesque masterpiece.

The scenic area offers over 23,000 acres of red foliage for visitors to enjoy. The change in leaves typically begins in mid-October, and the lower the temperature, the earlier the red leaves arrive. On the unique rocks, the red maple leaves resemble fire, and amidst the sea of clouds, the red leaves appear like rosy clouds. Walking through the forest of red leaves, all you'll see is the essence of autumn.

Heilongtan Scenic Spot

The most beautiful time at Heilongtan is during the golden autumn in October when the mountains are resplendent with colorful foliage, reminiscent of a brilliant sunset. Red maple and torch trees are scattered along the pathways in the scenic area, making it an ideal place for enjoying the autumn foliage on the outskirts of Beijing.

In the red leaf viewing area of the scenic spot, the colors are vibrant. Looking up from the foot of the mountain, amidst the sea of lush greenery, clusters of fiery red leaves decorate the landscape, creating a truly captivating scene. As you ascend along the mountain road, you'll be treated to a spectacular view of the multicolored scenery.

Baihe Daxiagu Red Leaf Viewing Area  

To reach this area, exit the Miyun-Chengde Expressway at the city exit, follow Miguan Road towards the reservoir, and continue until you reach Sihetang in Shicheng Town. The fiery red leaves of maple trees, golden yellow leaves of boxelder trees, and torch trees are distributed around the western side of the reservoir and along the Baihe. Driving along winding mountain roads, with the babbling Baihe on one side and rolling peaks on the other, you'll see clusters of red, as fiery as the sunset, and yellowing leaves, making this one of the most enchanting sights.

Late autumn is the best time to visit the vicinity of the Miyun Reservoir for red leaf viewing. Every autumn, the mountains surrounding the Miyun Reservoir are adorned with flaming red maple leaves and golden boxelder leaves, creating a truly magnificent spectacle. In this crisp autumn season, the resplendent and vibrant views are sure to captivate your heart.

Phoenix Hill (Fenghuangling in Chinese) Nature Park

The best time to appreciate the colorful foliage at Phoenix Hill is from October to November. This area boasts a wide variety of foliage, including maple leaves,  Chinese sweetgum, ivy, torch trees, and ancient ginkgo trees, which scattered throughout the park. Phoenix Hill offers three main hiking routes: south, central, and north. The central route from Longquan Temple to Shangfang Temple, the northern route from Shenquan to Feilaishi Pagoda, and the national-level southern hiking trail all provide spectacular views of the red leaves, making them the preferred routes for leaf viewing while hiking.
