Echoes of a Childhood Dream | Celebrating 40 Years of the Beijing Philharmonic Choir

2023-09-22

The Beijing Philharmonic Choir was founded in 1983 by the renowned conductor and music educator Professor Yang Hongnian. The current artistic director and permanent conductor is Professor Yang Li. The choir's aim is "love and dedication", and their anthem is "Our Song". The Yang Hongnian Choir has won numerous international awards and enjoys a high reputation both domestically and internationally, making it a world-class choir. Therefore, it is affectionately referred to as "Yang's Choir" by parents and students.

The highly sought-after "Yang's Choir" will join forces with the Beijing International Music Festival's important public welfare brand "Children's Music Concert" to present two special public welfare concerts, "Echoes of a Childhood Dream | Celebrating 40 Years of the Beijing Philharmonic Choir", which will be performed twice in a row at the Beijing Comedy Theatre on October 2nd.

The Beijing Philharmonic Choir, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, will use their voices to celebrate with children and bring a immersive choral experience to young audiences. This will also be an immersive choral music feast specially created for children and teenagers at this year's Beijing International Music Festival.

The Children's Music Concert will break the restriction of not allowing children under 1.2 meters to enter and will be open to audiences of all ages with a free reservation channel. Music education and parent-child experience will be combined to create shared musical memories for parents and children, open the door to music art with children's choir, and plant the seeds of love for music with beautiful melodies.

The Beijing Philharmonic Choir has trained many talents for the Chinese classical music industry. Several musicians who will perform at this year's Beijing International Music Festival, such as young conductors Huang Yi and Yu Ji, young countertenor Liu Shen, and young composer Wang Feinan, have all served as choir members in the Beijing Philharmonic Choir. Young conductor Huang Yi will conduct the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra to present "Pastoral for the Planet" to the audience. Young conductor Yu Ji will conduct the China Youth Symphony Orchestra to perform the China premiere of "Il mondo della luna". Young countertenor Liu Shen will participate in the first concert of the Mahler Foundation Festival Orchestra as a resident orchestra, performing "Il mondo della luna". Wang Feinan, a young composer who was commissioned by the Beijing International Music Festival to create the immersive opera "Orpheus" and won the "2021 Young Musician Award", will have his new work "Quantum Oceanarium" commissioned by the Mahler Foundation Festival Orchestra for its world premiere.
