In order to actively create a cultural symbol of 'Great Shows in Beijing' vigorously promote the construction of the 'Capital of Performing Arts' and concentrate on showcasing the achievements of the national cultural center construction, effectively enhance the development level of performing arts services, nurture and create new forms and scenes of performing arts that reflect the integration of culture and tourism, and support the development of more 'small and exquisite' and 'small and beautiful' performing arts spaces. In May 2023, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism launched the Performing Arts Space Incubation category for the first time on the Beijing Municipal Performing Arts Service Platform.

After undergoing stages such as social solicitation, expert evaluation, and result disclosure, a total of 15 projects have finally made it to the shortlist. The projects selected in this round prominently showcase new performance venues, new performing arts content, and new cultural consumption experiences, fully demonstrating the diversity and strong potential of Beijing's performing arts space development.

In terms of performance venues, the shortlisted projects for this round encompass various types of spaces, including traditional theaters, park districts, cultural heritage sites, and commercial complexes. Among them are traditional medium to large-sized theaters like the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, which creatively utilizes public spaces, and the China Puppet Art Theatre. There are also small-scale theaters like the Drum Tower West Theatre, known for creating innovative performing arts content. Furthermore, there are unique commercial spaces like the Jixiang Grand Theater, Oriental Art Space, Music Fans Art Space, Yushe Performing Arts Space, Zhengyici Peking Opera Theatre, Fanxing Drama Village, transformation projects in park districts, cultural heritage sites, and other innovative performing arts spaces. Additionally, there are performing arts complexes or artistic hubs that have already formed a clustering effect, such as Fanxing Drama Village, Middle Art Zone, and Fun Age·This Mortal World.

Zhengyici Peking Opera Theatre is located in Xicheng District, Qianmen Xiheyan Street, its predecessor for the Yihao Hall, is China's oldest, basically well-preserved wooden theater, known as the "living fossil of the Chinese opera house". Northern Kunqu Theater, as the operating unit, adheres to the concept of integrity and innovation, and strives to make the Beijing Temple Theater a new space for special performing arts that is exquisite, elegant, and beautiful in its dainty size".
