Observing emerging trends that will shape our future lives in the realms of Smart Education, Intelligent Construction, and Shared Intelligent Mobility---from the 2023 CIFTIS in Beijing

2023-09-07

In the early autumn, the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) kicked off in Beijing as scheduled, with over 2,400 companies participating in the offline exhibition. It focused on hot trends in the service trade sector, injecting new vitality into economic and social development.

Smart Education: Integrating Science and Education to Ignite Educational Vitality

In the 2023 CIFTIS education services themed exhibition in Shougang Park, one's eyes are drawn to the colorful "Smart Education Tree." Here, technologies like intelligent homework checking systems, smart paper and pen, and AI writing robots take center stage. The exhibition area emphasizes the digitization of education, showcasing the deep integration of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data with education, signaling a profound transformation in the field.

"Teachers can assign homework through the intelligent system, and students' assignments can be automatically graded by machine. AI provides intelligent diagnostics of learning progress, based on which personalized assignments are tailored to students." The technology-oriented booth of Feixiang Planet, an educational enterprise, was bustling with activity, with staff introducing an intelligent homework system.

Determining how to arrange the "3:30 p.m." after-school service time is an area of active exploration for many schools. On one side of the booth, a platform for quality after-school education services designed for this time period aims to reduce the implementation threshold for after-school services in schools. With gamified teaching, simulated experiments, and a "dual-teacher" system both online and offline, the rich curriculum in quality education combines both fun and knowledge.

"Write a travelogue about the Forbidden City," "Do plants need sleep?" "What are the characteristics of stars?" Facing various questions from the audience, the newly released education model at the exhibition can provide rapid responses.

Zhu Peng, the Beijing Regional General Manager of iFLYTEK, an artificial intelligence company, believes that the solutions provided by smart education can help innovate education and teaching models, offering precise and convenient services to students, teachers, and education administrators at all levels.

Intelligent Construction: Empowering "Made in China" with Technology

Curious about how strong the "Infrastructure Maniacs" are? Just visit the Engineering Consulting and Construction Services section in Shougang Park! Here, innovations in intelligent construction, including aerial building machines, next-generation intelligent construction robots, and 5G smart production lines, are on display, accelerating the transformation and upgrading of the construction industry.

At the China Construction Third Bureau booth, three "black technology" exhibits attracted visitors. These include the 5G indoor remote-controlled tower crane, the aerial building machine, and the residential building machine.

"Through remote-controlled tower cranes, we can control cranes in Wuhan, a city 1000 kilometers away from Beijing." A staff member from China Construction Third Bureau explained that the system uses 5G communication to achieve information exchange between the crane side and the ground control center, with an operation delay controlled within 40 milliseconds. Through the integration of a comprehensive on-site information collection system with multiple videos and sensors, crane operators and control systems can have a panoramic perception of the crane's working conditions on-site, enabling remote centralized operation.

The aerial building machine, independently developed by China Construction Third Bureau, is a platform for intelligent construction equipment for super-high-rise buildings, defined as those over 300 meters. It functions like an airborne construction factory and can achieve a construction speed of one structural level in as little as three days, shortening the construction period by about 20%, and enhancing the standardization, integration, and intelligence of construction.

The residential building machine incorporates some functions of the aerial building machine while also being characterized by its lightweight structure and wide applicability. It represents a shift from heavy-duty to light-duty building machinery, transforming from skyscrapers to high-rise residential buildings.

Safety is paramount in construction. At the China Construction First Bureau booth, a variety of intelligent equipment, including construction site inspection robots, building deformation monitoring radars, and electromechanical pipeline intelligent installation robots, can replace "dangerous, complex, dirty, and heavy" construction operations, effectively enhancing the intelligence of construction and improving safety.

Zhang Naifeng, Executive General Manager of the Northern Company of China Construction Third Bureau One Company, said that digital construction drives industrial transformation, and intelligent construction products can enhance the control capabilities of construction parties in terms of project quality, safety, and progress.

Shared Intelligent Mobility: "Smart + Low Carbon" Facilitates Upgraded Transportation

The Environmental Services section was a major highlight of this year's Service Trade Fair, featuring a special zone for low-carbon technology travel. Here, two keywords for future transportation were showcased: autonomous driving and green low-carbon.

In the low-carbon technology travel section of the CIFTIS in Shougang Park, an L4-level autonomous driving freight vehicle drew the attention from the visitors. This vehicle, a collaboration between Jiangling Motors and Wen Yuan Zhi Xing, is designed for open urban roads. It boasts 12 cameras, six LiDAR sensors, 360-degree non-blind spot perception, and a leading intelligent driving system, supporting all-weather, all-scenario operation.

In recent years, the rapid development of new energy vehicles has driven the development of infrastructure such as charging piles and related services. However, during holidays like "May 1st" and "October 1st," charging piles at high-speed service areas often have long queues. Energy IoT company AbleCloud showcased its latest developed intelligent charging robot at this year's CIFTIS.

The transformation towards clean and low-carbon transportation is worth noting, and hydrogen zero-carbon transportation is a notable aspect of this. In the annual CIFTIS themed exhibition in China National Convention Center, staff from China National Energy Group's booth explained that hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have achieved large-scale social operation, with application scenarios including urban passenger transport, logistics distribution, municipal sanitation, and more. In addition to the hydrogen energy industry, the layout of electric power substitution represented by battery-swapping heavy trucks is also a measure taken by China National Energy Group to create "green transportation."

Hydrogen fuel vehicles offer advantages such as high safety, fast refueling, and quick acceleration. Chai Maorong, Chief Scientist of China National Energy Group, believes that the prospects of China's transportation will focus on breakthroughs in heavy trucks and public transportation. They will establish an industrial demonstration of switching from diesel to hydrogen, layout hydrogen refueling stations, expand the scale of hydrogen energy utilization, and gradually expand into the passenger vehicle sector.

Wu Xiaojun, Deputy General Manager of Jiangling Motors, said that the processes of networking and digitization have accelerated the transformation of logistics demand patterns. Particularly, there will be a stronger demand for transport vehicles that are compliant and environmentally friendly.

Energizing the Service Trade, Creating a Better Life

The new changes and trends in fields such as education, construction, and transportation are just a microcosm. Through them, we can see that technological innovation is profoundly changing our lives, driving society forward. The vision of a better future life is worth our anticipation.
