This exhibition is divided into four parts, telling the story of "Qianlong Jade". The first three parts are "Imperial Treasures of the Emperor", "Palace Decor" and "Gentlemen with Jade". Over 100 jade artifacts from the Qing Dynasty, including Qianlong's imperial seals, have been carefully selected to present a comprehensive view of the jade culture during the Qianlong period from the perspectives of the usage and scenes of the imperial jade artifacts. The fourth part, "Life of Jade Art", is a special section of the exhibition that showcases a dialogue between the past and present, demonstrating the inheritance and innovation of jade fashion in contemporary times.
The ancients revered jade, and Xu Shen, a scholar from the Han Dynasty, explained jade as "the most beautiful stone with five virtues" in his book "Shuo Wen Jie Zi ('Discussing Writing and Explaining Characters') ".
Qianlong opened up the route of jade from Xinjiang to Beijing, and then a continuous supply of jade was transported. With Qianlong's direct involvement and command, the Imperial Household Department, as well as skilled craftsmen from Suzhou and Yangzhou, fully utilized their intelligence and talent. Jade artifacts during the Qianlong period reached unprecedented heights in terms of jade materials, design, and quantity, forming the "Qianlong craftsmanship". This led to excellent development and innovation in jade production during the Qianlong period, reaching the pinnacle in history.
