Recently, the "Creating in Inheritance: Form, Performance, and Artistic Scenes - Zhu Legeng Art Exhibition" opened at the China National Arts and Crafts Museum. Zhu Legeng, a renowned ceramic artist and a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, presented dozens of his representative works through immersive scene reproductions and classic original displays.
The exhibition is divided into two areas. The first exhibition area showcases a series of art scenes, including "Box of Life," "Triple Realm of Flowers," "Mirror Image of Lotus," "Spirit of Flowers," and "Lotus Rhyme." These installations, constructed with modern devices, provide spectators, performers, and interactive participants with engaging and accessible artistic spaces. This represents a new form of art born from the collision of new technologies and new aesthetic demands, as well as an attempt at Chinese-style scene art. In these interactive scene art spaces, the relationship between humans and art is redefined. Imaginative visions of the future drive the innovative will of both artists and viewers, as well as the relationship between creators and spectators, aiming to construct a new paradigm for artistic creation and evolution.
The "Spirit of Flowers" consists of three artistic scene spaces. In the "Velvet Hundred Flowers · Mirror of Spring" space, colorful cascades of velvet threads hang down, while in the "Mirror Image of Lotus" space, ceramic lotus flowers hang down. In these two spaces, two dancers simultaneously perform a duet titled "Yong III - Tang Yue Gong Tu," which is inspired by ancient Chinese paintings. The different spatial forms and the close proximity to the performance create a unique experience for the audience, different from the traditional theater stage for dance performances. In the "Triple Realm of Flowers" space, a guzheng concerto named "Autumn Rhyme" freely flows through porcelain pieces, immersing the viewers in an autumnal scene. "Box of Life" is a large-scale stage composed of ceramic mural paintings, exhibiting vivid and dynamic energy. The lively and melodious instrumental ensemble of "Jasmine Flower" resonates with the artistic space, providing a visual and auditory delight for the live audience. In "Box of Life," the performance of "Xiangshan Shegu" and the dreamlike ambiance captivate the audience.
The second exhibition area is a documentary exhibition showcasing representative ceramic vessels, sculptures, paintings, and other artworks created by Zhu Legeng from the 1980s onwards. These include works such as "Kite," "Miao Ethnic Style," "Wind," and "Pegasus in the Sky," reflecting the development of Zhu Legeng's ceramic art over the past four decades.
The most significant feature of this exhibition lies in its explorations of spatiality, interactivity, and experiential aspects. In addition to a series of performances, the organizers will also host three workshop projects during the exhibition: Sensory Language and Spatial Expression in Chinese Style (Performance Workshop), Spatial Expression of Chinese Lifestyle (Design Workshop), and Spatial Expression of Chinese Theater Ethnography (Art Anthropology Workshop). It is reported that this exhibition will be open to the public at the China National Arts and Crafts Museum from July 18th to August 10th.
