The Lugou Bridge is a AAAA-level national tourist attraction, a key national cultural relic protection unit, a classic red tourism site, and a patriotic education base.

The Lugou Bridge was first built in the 29th year of the Dading period of the Jin Dynasty (1189). It is the oldest surviving stone arch bridge in Beijing. It was initially named Guangli Bridge, but later renamed Lugou Bridge because the Yongding River was called Lugou River before the 37th year of the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty (1698). The bridge was first built in the 29th year of the Dading period of the Jin Dynasty (1189) and completed in the 33rd year of the Mingchang period of the Jin Zong (1192). Over the past 800 years, it has experienced several times of decline and revival, but its grandeur and majesty remain the same. After the Italian traveler Marco Polo visited here, he was amazed and praised it as the "best and unique bridge in the world." It is called the "Marco Polo Bridge" in foreign countries.

During the Ming Dynasty, Zhao Kuan wrote a poem describing the bustling scene of people passing through Lugou Bridge, rushing to the capital city amidst the sound of chickens and the dim moonlight. Not far from the eastern side of the bridge is the old Wanping City. Wanping County was first established in the 11th year of the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty (1638), formerly known as Gongbei City and Gongji City. It served as an important gateway for guarding the capital during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the 20th century, not far north of Lugou Bridge, another railway bridge was built. In 1905, the Pinghan Railway, an important transportation artery in China, was opened for full operation through this bridge. Additionally, there are two railway branches in the Lugou Bridge area, one leading to Beijing and Tongxian, and the other connects with the Beining Line at Fengtai. As a result, the Lugou Bridge area became a convergence point for three railway lines: Pinghan, Pingsui, and Pingjin, further highlighting its strategic importance.

Lugou Bridge is a heroic bridge located in the southwest suburb of Beijing, named after crossing the Lugou River. The Lugou Bridge area is an important ancient ferry crossing and a key gateway from the Yan region to the North China Plain. Since ancient times, Lugou Bridge has been a strategic location and a crucial transportation hub, witnessing numerous battles for its control. Historically, this magnificent and sturdy stone arch bridge also played a vital role in connecting the Great Wall with the rest of the country.
