In the midsummer season, the pond in Niulanshan Town, Shunyi District is filled with lush greenery. The red lotus, which has been growing for over 400 years, is blooming in abundance. This pond of lotus flowers is a primitive wild variety of red lotus found in Beijing. It was previously introduced to the Beihai South Gate Lotus Pond and the China National Botanical Garden.

As you walk along the lotus pond trail in Beisungezhuang Village, you will be greeted by the sight of majestic ancient lotus flowers. Some of them are fully bloomed, while others are still in their budding stage. The local villagers proudly share that Beisungezhuang Village was once abundant in natural wetlands and ponds, creating the perfect habitat for the flourishing of lotus flowers. These ancient lotus flowers have deep roots in this village, with a history spanning over 400 years. Each year, they bloom splendidly, transforming the village into a captivating summer landscape.

In 2021, Beisungezhuang Village took proactive measures to create an optimal growth environment for the ancient lotus flowers. The village carried out dredging of the lotus pond and appointed a knowledgeable and experienced elderly individual to oversee the care of the lotus. As a result, the ancient lotus has thrived even more vibrantly. Wang Jianhua, the Party Secretary of Beisungezhuang Village, proudly shared, "In 2021 and 2022, we were fortunate to witness the rare occurrence of twin lotus flowers." Building upon this success, the village is currently in the process of developing the "Qingyun Lotus Pond" scenic area, with the ancient lotus as its centerpiece.

The highly anticipated Shunyi Park Lotus Festival is now underway, offering visitors a breathtaking display of over one million pots of lotus flowers. This splendid showcase includes more than ten exquisite varieties, such as the white peony, thousand-petal lotus, Beijing lotus, Xiaowu Fei, Qingmaojie, and red lotus. Currently, the lotuses in Shunyi Park, Dongjiao Forest Park Shunyi Garden, Binhe Forest Park, and Jianhe Park have burst into full bloom, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. Visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of these lotus flowers until mid-August, making it a must-visit attraction for nature enthusiasts and flower lovers alike.
