Duijiu Valley

2023-07-25

Duijiu Valley is located approximately 4 kilometers northwest of Ming Tombs in Changping County, Beijing. It is a granite formation that was formed through intense crustal movement in the ancient Yan and Yu region over 100 million years ago. Over millions of years, it has naturally evolved into a beautiful landscape. Within the rugged and winding 3-kilometer gorge, there are unique flowers and plants, towering peaks, and peculiar rocks, exuding a strong wild charm. The mountains and rocks on both sides of Duijiu Valley stand tall, with a stream flowing through, earning it the nickname "Little Three Gorges" of northern Beijing.

Duijiu Valley is 3 kilometers long and is famous for its peculiar peaks, strange rocks, and flowing crystal-clear water. The area is characterized by steep rocky mountains and bizarre rocks. From the "Tingqintai," one can see the collision of water and stones, cascading into clear pools. The scene is either majestic or resembles "pearls falling onto a jade plate," creating a continuous sound like a Qin (a traditional Chinese string instrument). It is as if celestial music is unfolding before your eyes, as if "this melody should only exist in heaven."

Duijiu Valley is filled with springs, where clear pools and waterfalls connect, and streams wind their way through, crossing over stones and gorges. This place is known for its unfrozen water in the suburbs of Beijing, even in winter there are no frozen pools or icy surroundings. The most stunning scenery lies in the Golden Gorge, where the narrow canyon walls reach up to the sky, resembling a fortress. The Golden Gorge is praised for its beauty in places like the "Dongtian Gorge," "Immortal Hook Fishing Gorge," and "Dragon Absorbing Water Gorge," each containing their own unique scenery. Throughout the entire valley, there are no towering trees, but green vegetation thrives on the mountaintops, ridges, rock crevices, and streams, creating a lush and vibrant landscape. Around the time of May 1st, wildflowers bloom abundantly, filling the valley with fragrance, creating a picturesque scene with lush mountains and flowing water. During the rainy season in July and August, the water is abundant, providing a different and captivating experience. In August and September, the valley is filled with abundant fruits, with peach and plum trees full of ripe fruits. Visitors can freely pick and enjoy them without any charge.

The scenic area is divided into four parts: "Qinqu Welcoming Guests," "Gaoxia Pingliu," "Jin Xia Shengjing," and "Longtan Yougu," with over 50 viewing points. Starting from the south gate of the scenic area, there is a 600-meter-long mountain valley where the sound of flowing water is clear and melodious. The collision of water and rocks resembles the plucking of Qin strings to welcome visitors. It has the wonderful charm of "echoes reverberating in the valley for three days," and the Gaoxia Pingliu section is intoxicating and enchanting. The landscapes in the Jin Xia Shengjing area are the most captivating, with the gorge widening and narrowing. In the wider areas, there are numerous clear pools and slow-flowing water, while in the narrower areas, steep slopes and fast-flowing water create towering cliffs that can rival the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. When visiting the Longtan Yougu section, one can sit on the smooth rocks by the pool, with towering peaks and unique flowers and plants reflecting in the mirror-like clear water. There is a saying, "Sitting by the Longtan, facing the peaks, to truly understand the charm of this place, it all lies in the Longtan." The best time to visit is from April to October.
