The National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the "Ice Ribbon", is the only newly built ice competition venue in the main competition area of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. It's also the first speed-skating venue in the history of the Winter Olympics to use carbon dioxide as a refrigerant. It took on the speed skating event competition, witnessing the awarding of 14 gold medals and becoming the Winter Olympics venue with the largest number of gold medals. Together with "Bird's Nest" and "Water Cube", the "Ice Ribbon" forms the landmark building complex of the "Double Olympics" city.
Beijing is the only "double Olympic city", and the "Ice Ribbon" has also witnessed this glory. During the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, it was the venue for hockey. Because of this, some of the floor tiles of the hockey venue were specially used to build the "08 Road" next to the National Speed Skating Oval. Visitors can experience the sense of inheritance from the Summer Olympics to the Winter Olympics here.
The entire venue retains all the elements of the Winter Olympic period. Visitors can go to the podium to experience the feeling of winning awards and take photos with Bing Dwen Dwen, an official mascot for the Winter Olympics.
The ice rink is equipped with convenient service areas such as a skate rental area, preparation area, and rest area. There are speed skates for professional visitors, skating assistants for beginners, and training courses in speed skating, short-track speed skating, and figure skating.
In addition to experiencing ice sports, the "Ice Ribbon" also has a special area for tourism. The indoor tourism area contains the Olympic badge exhibition and the emblems of previous Olympic Games, and the outdoor area includes the Ice Ribbon Lake and Zhaohui Monument.
