In the scorching heat of Beijing Wildlife Park, where temperatures persistently soar, various measures have been taken by the staff to ensure the well-being of the animals. They can enjoy air conditioning, soak in large water pools, indulge in showers, and relish specially made ice popsicles. No matter how hot it gets, the animals remain composed in facing the sweltering heat.
As you enter Beijing Wildlife Park, you'll find big water pools that are prepared in advance, with cascading waterfalls ensuring a continuous flow in outdoor exhibition area where lions, white tigers, brown bears, elephants, and other animals live. Animals of all kinds happily frolic in the water to cool down. Sometimes, the caretakers even shower them directly using hoses.
The outdoor exhibition area is equipped with multiple sprinkler systems, which are opened at regular intervals every day. This cooling measure is highly welcomed by the animals, as the fine mist provides them with a constant sense of coolness. Animals such as sun bears, antelopes, red pandas, golden monkeys, and gorillas enjoy seeking shade in cool areas. The staff also prepares sunshades, "stone beds," and large ice blocks as heat prevention tools for them.
In addition, air conditioning is available 24 hours a day in the enclosures of white tigers, cheetahs, and other big cats, as well as in some indoor exhibition halls, maintaining the temperature between 26℃ and 28℃. This ensures that the animals can enjoy the summer with the comfort of air conditioning.
Not only do the animals enjoy a cool environment, but they also have special "summer recipes" to beat the heat. The happiest time for them is in the morning when chilled watermelons, grapes, cantaloupes, and other juicy fruits are brought to their mouths. Watching a whole watermelon being bitten into and juice bursting out from a hippo's mouth is enough to make the onlooking children jealous.
Moreover, the keepers have come up with creative ideas by making mung bean soup ice cubes and fruit ice cubes, giving the animals a change of taste and allowing them to enjoy summer-special "popsicles." Additionally, vitamins and trace elements are added to the animals' feed to replenish their summer energy expenditure.
