Guide to Lotus Viewing in Summer | Yuyuantan Park

2023-06-21

The lotuses in Yuyuantan Park are mainly distributed in the East and West Cherry Blossom Small Lake, as well as the "Wanping Hexiang" scenic area on the southwest shore of West Lake, covering a total area of 20,000 square meters. There are four varieties of lotuses in the park, mainly the Baiyangdian red lotus and Wufei lotus, with relatively fewer white lotuses and Daziyu lotus. The Daziyu lotus is the only variety with double petals and its flowering period can last until the end of August.

The lake is shimmering, and the lotus leaves are swaying. The lotuses are quietly blooming, with a faint lotus fragrance in the air. From afar, pink and white lotuses are in full bloom, with spherical green lotus seeds crowded together in honeycomb-like clusters. The lotus leaves appear like green umbrellas, covering the entire lotus pond.

The lotus viewing season typically lasts from June to mid or late August, providing an ideal opportunity for visitors to enjoy flower-seeing and photography during the hot summer months. There are two main lotus-viewing spots in the park: the "Wanping Hexiang" scenic area located on the southwest corner of West Lake, where visitors can observe lotuses of various colors up close; and the Cherry Blossom Small Lake in Cherry Garden, which features red lotuses, Daziyu lotus, and Wufei lotus as the main attractions. When in full bloom, the lotus petals flutter in the breeze, creating a particularly stunning sight. The Wufei lotus is particularly unique, with red tips, light green middles, and yellow bases. The red lotus, which is tall and produces numerous colorful flowers when in bloom, is also a sight to behold. Looking across the lake from the opposite bank, the towering branches of the lotuses are truly breathtaking!

In the pond, some lotuses are just beginning to bloom with a gentle and delicate tenderness, while others remain in bud. There are also some lotuses whose petals have fully opened, revealing their golden yellow stamens and tender yellow lotus seeds, appearing graceful and captivating.
