Lianhuachi Park, named after the ancient relic Lotus Pond, is known for its lotus planting and cultivation. Its history can be traced back to the Jin Dynasty, more than 800 years ago. On June 13th, twin lotus flowers on one stalk were selected from the lotus base inside the park and placed in the "Variety Lotus Flower Exhibition Area" for public display. The variety of the twin lotus is called "Xiaofeng Liangyue", a large-sized variety with double-layered pale pink petals. It is reported that a twin lotus grow two flowers on one stalk. The chance of a twin lotuses appearing is about one in a hundred thousand, which is a rare natural phenomenon. At Lianhuachi Park, the rare "twins" of the plant world - twin lotus have appeared again, with four discovered within a week. This situation is very rare in previous years. Currently, one blooming twin lotus is open for display to visitors at the park's east square.
On June 11th, two twin lotuses were found consecutively in the park, and they are currently in bud at the lotus cultivation base. "Discovering four twin lotuses within a week is relatively rare. In previous years, we would also find twin lotuses in the park, but generally only two or three during the entire lotus season, and the time interval is also relatively long", said Li Kaiyu, senior park engineer at Lianhuachi Park. On the morning of June 14th, a blooming twin lotus caught people's attention as they entered the "Variety Lotus Flower Exhibition Area" at the park's east square. Li Kaiyu introduced that "Xiaofeng Liangyue" began blooming on June 12th and is expected to last for three days.
Currently, thousands of potted lotuses in the east, west, and north squares of the park, as well as the lake area, have begun to bloom. The peak flowering period is generally from late June to late July. It is reported that Lianhuachi Park has more than 800 years of lotus planting history and has been engaged in the cultivation research and introduction development of new lotus varieties. At present, the park has more than 300 lotus varieties, including self-cultivated lotus varieties such as Fenlingyun, Lugouxiaoyue, and Lingxiaohong, which have won numerous national and international awards.
