The lotus area in the Yuanmingyuan Park covers about 1,000 mu (about 165 acres) and boasts around 200 varieties of lotus. "The water chestnut leaves float and the lotus sways in the wind; in the deep waters of the lotus, small boats pass by." During the full bloom of the lotus,  visitors can take a boat ride from the Haiyue Kaijin Dock in Changchun Garden to explore the quiet depths of the lotus pond. There, they can see colorful koi swimming and inhale the intoxicating aroma of the lotus blossoms
