Guide to Lotus Viewing in Beijing | Xihaizi Park

2023-06-21

The lotus pond in Xihaizi Park covers an area of approximately 0.3 acres. When the lotus flowers are in full bloom, the water surface is covered with lush green lotus leaves, and the pond is adorned with blooming lotus flowers. The water droplets roll on the lotus leaves, glistening like glass beads, with a sparkling clarity. In the distance, the reflection of the Randeng Tower in the center of the lotus pond enhances the harmony between natural beauty and cultural landscapes, showcasing the cultural atmosphere of the Grand Canal.

Xihaizi Park is rich in aquatic plants, with the predominant color of lotus flowers being pink. Their blooming periods vary, with some already in full bloom, some with petals fallen, and others still in bud. There are more than ten varieties, including the Baiyangdian Red Lotus, White Lotus, and Dasajin Lotus. The peak blooming period is from July to the end of September. With the Randeng Tower and Xihai Pavilion as a backdrop, appreciating the lotus flowers becomes even more picturesque.

"Emerging from the mud unstained, washing off the clear ripples without being bewitching." While admiring the appearance of the lotus flowers, their character is even more cherished. Graceful and poised, delicately adorned, they bring the utmost comfort in the midst of summer.

There are currently seven lotus viewing areas in Xihaizi Park: the surrounding waters of the Xihai Pavilion Phase I, the Lan Yue Pavilion, the Tan Hai Square, the Hulu Lake, and the front of Xihai Lake, with a total area of approximately 800 square meters. The lotus flowers harmonize with the Randeng Buddhist Relics Pagoda and the high-rise buildings of the Grand Canal Business District, making it the best viewing spot for lotus appreciation in the city's sub-center.

Address: No. 12 Xihaizi West Road, Tongzhou District, Beijing.
