Zhangjiakou, also known as Zhangyuan or Wucheng, is located in the northwest of Hebei Province. It is a famous northern city with a long history and splendid culture. Dajingmen Scenic Area

Dajingmen is one of the famous passes on the Ming Great Wall, located at the northern end of Zhangjiakou City. In 1368, General Xu Da was ordered to repair the ancient Great Wall and established this pass. In 1485 (Chenghua era of Ming Dynasty), a city wall was built here. Dajingmen was built in the 17th year of Chongzhen's reign (AD1644) during the Ming Dynasty, and it is a brick archway with a stone base, with two wooden and iron doors. The gate is inscribed with the four characters "Da Hao He Shan” "(picturesque landscape) by Gao Weiyue, a Qing Dynasty general, with each character measuring one square meter.

Dajingmen Scenic Area was upgraded to a national 4A-level scenic spot in 2010. The main attractions include the Xitai Mountain section of the Ming Great Wall, the Northern Wei Great Wall of Xitai Mountain, Xiaojingmen, Dajingmen, Erlang Temple, Guandi Temple, stone carvings, and Laiyuanbao Yongshun Gate. The entire Dajingmen building is magnificent, and from the top of the city tower, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Zhangjiakou City, with the Taiping Mountains on the east and west standing tall and the Qing Shui River flowing through the city. Looking north, one can see the undulating mountains, with the two gullies to the east and west reaching far into the plateau, making the terrain very dangerous.

Dajingmen witnessed the prosperity of the ancient tea-horse trade as well as the rise and fall of the Zhangku Avenue. It is also one of the torch relay points for the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics in 2022.

Zhangjiakou Fortress

Zhangjiakou Fortress is located in Qiaoxi District, Zhangjiakou. It is the earliest fortress in the city, which is also the "origin" and "root" of this city. According to historical records, the fortress was an ancient city during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, a key town in the west of Beijing a hundred years ago, built during the Xuande period of the Ming Dynasty, and has a history of nearly 600 years.

Zhangjiakou Geological Museum

Zhangjiakou Geological Museum is located at No.12 Century Road, Jingkai District. It covers an area of 25.5 mu and the building design is based on the geological and geomorphic characteristics of Zhangjiakou. The overall building design is based on the geological and geomorphic characteristics of Zhangjiakou, with the exterior design inspired by volcanic eruptions showcasing the local step-like terrain. Its exterior color is taken from the natural color of minerals and volcanic magma, with a simple and sturdy design style.

The museum has five floors above ground and one floor below ground, with a building height of 34.6 meters and a total construction area of 24,949 square meters. It is divided into functional areas, office areas, exhibition areas, public spaces, and science popularization areas.

There are six regular exhibition halls, including the shared hall, Earth hall, mineral and rock hall, paleontology hall, resources and utilization hall, as well as the geological environment hall. In addition, the museum also has temporary exhibition halls, a 4D cinema, science popularization areas, and social education areas.

Through specimens, pictures, texts, audio-visual materials, and simulated scenes, the museum systematically displays the changes of the Earth, magical minerals and rocks, the evolution of life, the geological and geomorphic characteristics of Zhangjiakou, and the natural resources overview of China and Zhangjiakou. Zhangjiakou Industrial Culture Theme Park

The Zhangjiakou Industrial Culture Theme Park is the city's first large-scale public urban leisure space integrating industrial culture, Olympic culture, and modern art. The park's major theme is the history of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway and the century-long development of industry, with representative industrial historical relics as the basis for landscape shaping. It demonstrates the industrial history and development achievements of Zhangjiakou.

The Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway, designed by Zhan Tianyou and built under his supervision, is the origin of China's railway history. It is the country's first self-built trunk railway and has a history of more than 110 years. After the closure of the old railway station in Zhangjiakou, to preserve the city's historical memory and enrich the cultural life of its citizens, the industrial culture theme park was built.

The Zhangjiakou Industrial Culture Theme Park covers an area of 113,000 square meters, with industrial culture as its main axis and three strip-shaped green zones as its overall structure in the shape of the Chinese character "ren (人)" of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway. It is divided into five major theme functional areas, including a locomotive culture area, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway culture area, along with an Olympic fitness area. About 75 pieces of physical industrial equipment and old railway tracks running through the pedestrian walkways silently tell the story of Zhangjiakou's industrial glory and showcase the former glory of the "Northern Silk Road".
