On the occasion of International Museum Day, images of 20,000 new digital cultural relics have been added to the Digital Cultural Relics Library (hereinafter referred to as the "Library") of the Palace Museum. Currently, over 100,000 precious relics have been on display online.
The Digital Cultural Relics Library of the Palace Museum was established in 2019. With basic information about more than 1.86 million collected items already being disclosed, the Palace Museum has specifically selected high-definition digital images of 50,000 cultural relics for free online exhibition. The Library has been expanding in the following years.
"To help every person search for a specific item, we have enhanced the capability for the retrieval of cultural relics through knowledge graph technology," said one of the staff members of the Palace Museum. "At first, users could only search for cultural relics with names. But now, items can be found through more types of keywords, such as those related to patterns and colors. As of now, the Library is the most popular digital section of the official website of the Palace Museum, with over 33 million views."
In addition to the Library, other products digitalizing cultural relics have been officially launched one by one, including the Digital Treasure Pavilion and other exhibition platforms, the mini program of the Palace Museum, and an app named "Meiri Gugong" (which literally means "Every Day of the Palace Museum").
The "Palace Museum-Tencent Creative Lab" was also founded on May 18. The two sides will jointly develop a "Digital Twin Intelligent Management Platform" in the future.
A person responsible for the operation of the Palace Museum says that the museum will continue to dig into the excellent traditional Chinese culture through technological innovation and cooperation, and keep promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of the Palace Museum's cultural relics resources.
