Dongjiao Wetland Park | Artificial Sand Dunes, Lakes, and Floral Landscapes

2023-04-11

Dongjiao Wetland Park not only boasts its wetlands but also surprises visitors with an area of coexisting man-made sand dunes and lakes. A boardwalk separates the lakes from the sand dunes, reminiscent of the scenery at the Crescent Moon Spring in Gansu province. The man-made beach, known as "White Sand and Egret Viewing,"(Baisha Guanlu in Chinese) is located within Dongjiao Wetland Park and gives visitors a feeling of being on a white sandy beach where camping, picnicking, kite-flying, and playing in the sand are all possible.

The park features Yuling Lake, the largest lake in the eastern suburbs of Beijing, and the highest point in the area, Lantui Tower. There are more than 20 other attractions, including "Viewing Jade in the Forest," "Lover's Wharf," "Lotus Fragrance," and "Shallow Pond with Fish Shadows." In addition to the sandy beach, water and ponds dominate the landscape here. Scenic boardwalks, hidden among the greenery, meander through the park. Walking amidst the cool breeze, each step offers a different view. The park has planted over 60 species of trees and shrubs, such as Chinese scholar tree, weeping willow, Paulownia and magnolia. Over 70 species of ground cover flowers and aquatic plants, such as water lilies, lotus and veronica, are also found here. Walking among the flowers, visitors feel like they are in a painting. In addition to the southern entrance, flower views can be found almost everywhere along the paths in the park. The Xiaozhong River runs through the park, and the park's paths wind and turn, offering asphalt roads for vehicles, as well as facilities for cycling, scenic boardwalks, and rest stations. Cycling, hiking, and flower viewing while breathing in the fresh air make for a most enjoyable experience.
