There is a Peking Opera-themed cafe called "Mood in Rouge Cafe" hidden in the Zhuzhong Hutong, not far west of the Bell and Drum Towers. Entering the cafe, you can see Beijing opera elements everywhere such as facial makeup and Kuitou, a kind of Chinese opera headdress. The interior is spacious and bright with the decorations of flowers and greenery, making it full of oriental flavor.

Liu Zhen, the owner of the cafe, has been studying opera since he was a child and graduated from the Peking Opera Department of the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts. He used to be a Peking Opera actor and worked as a program director and stage play producer. Recent years, he is mainly engaged in the promotion of Peking Opera culture and education. Mood in Rouge Coffee is a new attempt by Liu Zhen and his team to promote the culture of Peking Opera.

The names of the drinks on the menu are all related to opera. Each coffee tells a story. In order to develop a satisfactory product, the entire team often has to attempt dozens of recipes. Liu Zhen hopes that the so-called "Peking Opera theme" is not just a conceptual package, but a true reflection of the inclusive and diverse artistic charm of Peking Opera.

In addition, Liu Zhen also holds small lectures and improvisation performances from time to time in the cafe to popularize opera knowledge to customers. Occasionally, he also performs a Beijing opera and communicates with customers. "Although everyone knows that Peking Opera is a national treasure, I hope that it can be promoted in a diversified and more practical way. By creating this Peking Opera-themed space, I hope to open a door for the public to get in touch with Peking Opera and give people a chance to discover that Peking Opera can also be an usual way of life."
The lively Peking Opera background music, the old Peking Opera photos on the wall, and the gorgeous costumes dotted around the corners allow visitors to spend a leisurely time here.
