Huang Zhou Portrait Exhibition

Huang Zhou, formerly known as Liang Gantang, was a painter who founded the school of Chinese painting in the 20th century. He went to Qinghai, Xinjiang, Tibet and other places to sketch, forming an artistic style that combines realism and traditional pen and ink. Huang Zhou has created huge classic works for Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, Zhongnanhai, Great Hall of the People, Beijing Railway Station and other places, and many works have been presented to many countries as national gifts.

Yanhuang Art Museum Collection of Shadow Paper Cutting Exhibition

More than half a century ago, shadow puppets came to the front from behind the scenes, and paper cuts created by folk artists returned to "doors and windows". A few days ago, "Shape, Shadow, God - Yanhuang Art Museum Collection Shadow Paper Cutting Exhibition" was unveiled at Yanhuang Art Museum, focusing on the "shape" and "shadow" of paper cutting and shadow puppets and depicting the original Chinese "traditional" picture. Among them, the "Leting Shadow" collected by Mr. Huang Zhou, a famous painter, met the audience for the first time after decades of dust. 

"Leting shadow", commonly known as "Leting Ying", originated in Leting County, Hebei Province, and is one of the main types of shadow puppetry in China, which has gradually developed and matured from the Jin Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty. As many as 4500 shadow puppets were exhibited on the light boxes at the scene, covering not only the classic characters of Sheng, Dan, Jing and Chou, but also rich animals, props and sets. 

The exhibition also features folk paper-cutting works donated by Feng Zhen, a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, such as "Horseback Archery" by Cheng Jianli, a peasant paper-cutting artist from Anhui Province, and "Shituanhua" by Hui Fujun, the provincial inheritor of paper-cutting in Qingyang, Gansu Province.
